Princess Gardens, a photo from Devon, England

Photographer's Note

Two more pictures from our recent visit to Torquay.

These are the Princess Gardens, very close to the sea front.
Overlooked by the Edwardian Pavilion.

"The gardens take their name from Princess Louise, the then Princess Royal and fourth daughter of Queen Victoria, who laid the foundation stone for the 'pleasure ground' in May 1890."

Formally laid out flower beds with the Fleur-de-lys laid out in bedding begonias.

Hello Jean,
Red on green was well chosen by the town gardener and a well used opportunity by you. I would have loved to see a drone photo as a complement. Lacking that I am quite happy with this view, where the bright colours almost make me forget the cloudy sky.

Hello Jean,

We are neighbours, today!

Those formal beds in the f/g look amazing, both for their patterns and design.
I like how you have composed the scene, the deep-red, flower beds pointing from the r/h corner, on a diagonal, to the fountain.

You chose the better photograph for your main shot though both contain interesting details.

When I was much younger, we visited Torquay many times and I loved it. I don't think we have visited for over forty years, now! We must correct that!

Hi Jean
You used this photo opportunity really well by filling the foreground with the begonias. Red on green works wonders for the image and they also lead the viewer's eye towards the fountain in the middle distance.

I like the alternating red and cream colours in the topiary shrubs. Good colour saturation and sharpness with a pleasant diffused light. Tfs!

Hi Jean,
beautiful gardens. I like the fountain and the flower arrangement. The weather didn't spoil you but you managed to capture some cloud features in the sky, which makes it more interesting.
I have to remember all the spots for a potential trip to southwest (!) I bet this year it is really crowded in there.

This is a pretty scene. The bright colors of the flowers and the fountain really jump out against the moody sky. There are some people enjoying the path, and we get a glimpse of the town in the background. Take care!

it is ever a pleasure for me to admire the beauty of the british gardens, the organized display of the flowers and the quality of the plants. in parte this is possible because the long tradition of gardening and for other side your humid weather during summer let the flowers to survive much more time. here in my town they have few days to last, the sun is very strong.
