Kirkgate, a photo from North Yorkshire, England

Photographer's Note

All of my photos from Ripon so far have the Ripon Cathedral in them although each presents the cathedral from a very different angle and in a different context:

This picture was taken from a little street called Kirkgate. Kirkgate means the road (gate) to the church (kirk). It is a relatively popular name for a street. The most popular examples are in Leeds or Bradford where shopping centers were built around and named after such streets.
This point of view was exactly half way between the Ripon Market Place and the Ripon Cathedral.
As you can see the weather has significantly changed in comparison to my previous photos taken earlier on the same day.

Hello Mariusz,
This is a nice street photo. We see fine buildings, people and lots of colours. The street makes a nice diagonal which balances the photo well, and the many flowers fill what could have been an empty foreground.

A quiet daily life in the small town promenade, Mariusz.
Different colors of the houses, decorated by the flowers on sides and the church clock tower "placed" perfectly in between.
One remark though: looked up the Google-map, and the spot taken from is at 54.1352, -1.5221, my humble correction.

Mysle, ze ta zmiana pogoda na mniej sloneczna to nie byla taka zla rzecz. Nie mamy tu wprawdzie budynkow zlanych cieplym popoludniowym sloncem, ale nie ma tez kontrastu, zacienionych miejsc, ktory skrylyby moze niektore z tym bardzo przyjemnych dla oka kolorow i szczegolow. Wystawa przed kwiaciarnia oraz gazon w rogu zdjecia tworza naprawde super pierwszy plan. Dobry wybrales tez moment aby uchwycic ludzi idacych ulica, wyraznie zainteresowanych sklepami po prawej.

Hello Mariusz, I remember this street so well as it lead to the cathedral. There used to be an independent book shop along here where we would buy our books for college.
This is a lovely view with the old buildings all in their own style. The flowers and people add life and colour.

excellent this view with the tower o the church peeking the photographer. nice details as the flowers and the people watching the area around. the fa蓷de of the shops are typical of UK. I know you would prefer a blue sky, but here this isn't important.
today we have another grey, foggy day, but no rain.

Hello Mariusz,
A charming street with the shops on the ground floor and the walls of the higher floors in different colours leading us to the most important building of Ripon, its cathedral.
The box of flowers in the lower left corner and the street lamp between the facade and the cathedral are both excellently placed in the photo.
A picture with much life, many colours and a fine atmosphere.
The word for church, 'kirk', is very similar to the Dutch/Flemish word 'kerk'.
Now I know where Kirk Douglas got his name from :)

You chose the perfect time of year to capture this location! The floral displays outside the shops make a colourful and interesting introduction to the guide towards the cathedral.
There are just enough pedestrians to animate the scene, without overpowering it!

Such a charming view down the street here with the square tower of the church in the distance. The fa蓷des on both sides look so charming with lots of fine details and of course the flowers add some lovely colours as well.

Storefronts of old English towns are just charming and the cathedral quite impressive background. Although I see cars this street is obviously mostly pedestrian. I just returned from a trip to Ireland and those places gave fairly similar impressions.

Charming street, I like to see it adorned with plants, also the flower shop in the foreground is a great bonus to the beauty of the image, the cathedral looks formidable in the background of the street.
A magnificent color that gives a lot of chromatic richness to the image.

P.S. I see that your next photo has been from Cape Verde, lately we coincide in the date of our trips, I traveled on April 15 to the island of Menorca and I have returned this morning.
