Purple dreams, a photo from Isle of Wight, England

Photographer's Note

The heathland of Ventnor down is a very bleak wind swept place, even during the summer it can be cold, damp, and misty.
By late August and September things change, the heather plants start to flower producing this beautiful purple carpet.
This year however, the flowers have come early and they have been around for a few weeks now already!
I decided to combine the warm sunset with the purple flowers to produce this multiple colour combination.
Does purple, green, and orange go together?

I used an ND8 Grad filter

Hello Jamie,
This is such a beautiful wide angle shot. The dim yet gentle light of the setting sun illuminates the flowers and the grass in such a beautiful way that it's beyond words. I really love the colors in this shot, it's a great candidate for a computer background.

Another fantastic image with amazing colours and lighting. You certainly have the knack of capturing powerful photos full of colour and atmosphere. You have created very good foreground interest with the purple and green flora. Have you used any flash to improve the lighting onto the flowers or is this the result of the last rays of the sun? Whatever you've done, you've done well. Excellent.

This is an amazing shot! It looks good on the thumbnail and it looks even better full-size!

Lovly composition, beautiful colours in the sky and the low sunlight transforms the colours of the heather. It is magical!

Oh wow... My God and I was thinking the UK was always a rainy place. Well, I told you that before, but the Isle of Wight seems to be a lush place where the sunsets are always beautiful ;-). Very nice!

The essential ingredients in this photo are light and color working together to produce an impressive image. Both the elements included in the frame and the moment to click the shutter were well chosen.
