Photographer's Note
As you can see Hever Castle is a popular tourist attraction, especially on a warm and sunny day.
Some information about Hever Castle from the castle's official web site:
“There have been three main periods in the construction of this historic castle. The oldest part of the castle dates to 1270 and consisted of the gatehouse and a walled bailey. In the early 1500’s, the Bullen family bought the castle and added a Tudor dwelling within the walls and so it became the childhood home of its most famous inhabitant, Anne Boleyn. It later passed into the ownership of Henry’s fourth wife, Anne of Cleves. From 1557 onwards the Castle was owned by a number of families including the Waldegrave’s, the Humfreys’ and the Meade Waldo’s. Finally, in 1903, William Waldorf Astor invested time, money and imagination in restoring the Castle, building the ’Tudor Village’ and creating the gardens and lake.
Since 1983, the castle has been owned by Broadland Properties Limited and open to the public. The castle has a homely atmosphere and houses historic 16th century portraits, furniture and tapestries. Other artefacts include two magnificent Books of Hours (prayer books), both signed and inscribed by Anne Boleyn. A costumed figure exhibition in the Long Gallery adds to the atmosphere and is popular with the children The Council Chamber in the thirteenth century gatehouse contains recently acquired swords and armour which have been added to the existing collections of historic instruments of execution, torture and discipline.”

Hi Stephen & Happy new Year!
I like the fg reflection, & the well manicured grounds, of this attractive castle in Kent. Good sharpness, & the overcast day has allowed maximum shadow detail, due to the diffused light. Tfs!

Bonjour, cher Stephen,

Hello Stephen. A photo as from the picture book. The motive is very beautifully composed and worth seeing. Ideal light and natural colors. Exemplary text. If the castle would be in my proximity, I would visit it. Best regards, Wolfgang.

Hi Stephen.
Very nicely composed shot, with the grasses around the water looking so sharp, and the people providing flashes of colour. Perhaps the upper portion of the photo could be a bit darker, but that's a very minor point. I found your note interesting. There are so many such stately homes and castles in Britain, and although I think I've visited several dozen, I haven't even heard of this one till now.
Regards, and best wishes for 2008

Hello Stephen,
nice view from a shadowed place along a trench to the castle. The green surrounding is pleasant and together with all those people giving life to this place of history. I think it is always a luck, if those old castles are open to the public and presenting history in several ways.

Hi Stephen,
An impressive castle but this time a bit in the background. The fine foreground is dominating this photo. A very interesting note, as usual.

Hi Stephen and Happy New Year!
Quite a 'formal' composition with the castle sitting nicely on a 'third'. I particularly like the reflections and the reeds with the impeccable topiary adjacent to the path.
Very naturalistic colours and, overall, a really good shot. Regards, Paul.
