Photographer's Note

This is a Serval Cat.

30 - 45 pounds, and up to 32" in length, excluding the tail, which is a three-quarters length tail.

Servals are light brown in color with dark spots, and have black ears with large white spots on the backs of the ears, and black tail tips. They often have white bellies.

Serval Cats are found in savannahs and areas where water resources are abundant. Bushy areas provide the species with good hunting sites. Grasses and areas close to streams are also a preferred habitat of the Serval Cat. Serval Cats can also live in high-altitude moorlands.

This picture was taken in the safary, I used the shallow DOF to eliminate the bars in front of the Serval, if have sharp vision you can see light black shadows at the front.

he didn't seem to happy about seeing you, I think even though it's a small cat it might have been your luck that there was a fence between the two of you. About the mesh fence, an even higher apperture number would have given you a more shallow DOF thus allowing us to focus more on the cat and less on the fence behind it, but then again you did very well in hidding the front fence :o)

Very good head you have here Elroyie,
Very well timed shot, very nice, but I think you can cropp it better. That my personal opinion. But it is nice so it is, very good job

Eek! What a look and expression of the serval cat, quite unique. I'm particularly drawn into the superb details of its face, all the way to these amazing textures on the tongue. The pattern of the fur is quite beautiful, too. Well captured, Elroyie. I think you could crop a little closer to the ears on the top.

Nice job shooting through the bars. One of mt favourite small cats. We have have only seem them twice in the wild, and I shaked so much that all my photos were blured.
PS, the Leopard is 500 mm handheld on a vehicle with moving, shooting people, stabalised on my elbow, so yes, some movement is evident
