Israel from Dead Sea, a photo from Madaba, North

Photographer's Note

Looking towards Israel on the western shore of the Dead Sea, which is the lowest point on earth, at -430 metres. It's also 10c hotter than both Amman and Jerusalem, both on plateaus on opposites sides of the rift valley that stretches all the way through to the Gulf of Aqaba, the Red Sea & beyond to east Africa. So when it is 33 in Amman it's 43c at this resort. Most of the locals were not interested in swimming in the Dead Sea which feels kind of slimy, and preferred the fresh, filtered water of the swimming pools. But i specifically came to this hotel to experience the Dead Sea. There is an outdoor freshwater shower by the lake to hose off the super salty water. The Dead Sea is the 2nd saltiest lake on Earth. The saltiest is in Antarctica, which rules out swimming completely. This is the Dead Sea Spa Resort at the north eastern side of the lake.

Chris, this resort is ideally located on the Dead sea shore. It offers a stunning view of the opposite side in Israel. To swim in such salty water should be an unforgetable experience. Fine colors, perfect sharpness, interesting photo note, merry Christmas.

Hello Chris,
There are plenty of blue tones in and around the pool, and a few more in the sea and the sky. I can't say that the Dead Sea is very high on my bucket list. It sounds too hot and maybe too slimy. I'd rather watch it from the safe distance of this photo.

It's interesting to see all of the activity in the foreground, and then the sea and plateau on the other side are so quiet and calm. I like all the blue color in the pool complex, and the three palm trees, too.

Intersting, I didn't know that the saltiest body of water is located in Antarctica.
Lovely photo with so many shades of blue mixed with dazzlingwhite. I like the parasols in the foreground and little splashes of yellow.

for some reason its kind of ironic to see a water slide park right next to an ocean or sea - think about it. Its like building a skating rink stadium next to an outdoor skating rink. Anyways, that doesn't take away from the shot at all.
After reading your note, its clear why people are at the resort and not in the Dead Sea :) Makes sense now. Did you go in the Dead Sea though? Pleasing shot from here, cool to see Israel across the way. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas! cheers

great choice of theme for the Christmas season. I would prefer so much to run away from the dark rainy days in the north now to warmer destinations. I suppose it may get too hot like in Australia...
Great composition with the dark blue and yellow elements decorating the scene so nicely.
