Photographer's Note

Jericho, the 鏠ity of Palms� is a small city within the Palestinian Territories and Israeli-occupied West Bank. Jericho is touted as the world's oldest city and is believed to be 10,000 years old. Jericho can also feel like the hottest place on earth, due to the fact that � at 274.02 m below sea level � it has its own micro-climate.

Hike up or take the cable car up to the Mountain of Temptation (also Quarantania, 幈f the Forty Days�) where is a Greek Orthodox monastery on its slope, whose main relic is the stone on which Jesus Christ prayed during His forty-day fast, preparing for His ministry on Earth, and where He was tempted by Satan.

From the mountain is fantastic view on Jericho and surrounding desert.

It's a well composed and perfectly exposed photo where the three cable cars are superb eye-catchers. They make a stunning contrast to the flat city below and the hazy view into the distance. Are you sure they have the genuine stone? :-)

Must be quite a place to explore. Standing within such history. Great contrast between the gondolas and the sand colored city. Nicely composed picture!

Hello Zbigniew,
A very long time ago I visited Jericho and the nearby Hisham's Palace. It was summer and indeed very hot.
But I don't have a memory of the Mountain of Temptation and certainly not of a cable car going there.
Perhaps the cable car didn't exist then.
From your point of view we get a good view of the town, the plain that looks like a desert but there is also a large green area.
Very well composed with the three gondolas close to each other.

cześc Zbyszek, Super widok, kolejki i tego co tam w dole. Przypomniało mi się, jak byłam na wycieczce z Sigma Travel (więcej moja noga z nimi nie postała) Chciałam zobaczyc wykopaliska, ale przewodnik uznał ze to nic ciekawego wrrr. Nie pamiętam tej kolejki, ale ja była jeszcze w ubiegłym tysiącleciu.
A tego kamienia tez nie widziałam. Chociaż dziwne, gdybym słyszała że gdzieś był Juliusz Cezar, to bym się nie zastanawiała, a tu miałabym pewne wątpliwości co do autentycznosci.

The dark tones of the three cable cars make them stand out beautifully over the city, and they are perfectly positioned in the image! And very nice panoramic view captured with excellent sharpness and depth! Wonderful place and composition! Well done!

This is relatively new cable-cars in Jericho, my last visit to this town was in 1997, a brief ride through, and than just past by the No.1 route on the way to the Dead-Sea, but never saw this.
Nicely appearing the modern mean of transport against the desert town scenery.
