Photographer's Note

The Urartians were an Assyrian people that lived around Lake Van in eastern Turkey. They are the ancestors of the Armenians, but were conquered by the Persian Medes. I was excited to see these original statues in the Anatolian Civilisations museum in Ankara, because I had previously visited the original hilltop ruins of Kef Kalesi behind Adilcevaz on the Western shores of the Lake.
