Photographer's Note
3 photos from around the main town in Cappadocia, Goreme.
The main one is a scene in the main street with lots of tufa chimneys, complete with doors and some with modern windows indicating continued occupation. There is also walking along the street the only turkey that I remember seeing in Turkey.
In the WS is a B&W photo of a tufa chimney that must have been quite grand originally.
The other WS shows the guardian of one of the tufa churches in her tufa house.
To remind you tufa is a soft form of limestone.
Scanned from negatives.

Hello Ian,
The unique earth formation can be seen from very close range within the town area, did not know that, so this is TE mission picture par excellence.
Excellent scanned photo.
Good afternoon,

Hello Ian,
Interesting photos all of them, but Erdogan will be outraged if he sees your reference to a turkey in Turkey. The main photo is a mirror image. By mistake or for a special reason?
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Ian,
I like the contrast between the modern building in the foreground and the old residences carved out of the rocks in the background. Well done including a Turkish turkey.
One point that needs correcting. The rocks are not made of tufa (which, as you say, is a type of limestone) but a rock called tuff. There is much confusion in the tourist literature about this. Tuff is volcanic ash, and in this place the ash is relatively soft and easy to carve holes in, but strong enough not to collapse. The rock is also easily eroded by rain to form these pillars and chimneys.

Hi Ian,
The bird is eye-catching. The point of view is showing the details of the buildings. The light is giving good colors output. Have a nice day.

Hello Ian,
Your main photo shows a splendid view of the wonderful world of Cappadocia including some ordinary houses and ... a real turkey on the street.
But if you show a picture of a turkey in this country, you should call the country Türkiye.
Not so long ago, Erdoğan decided that the country should be called Türkiye, also in English.
The same name for the land and the bird is now out of the question :)
I also like the soft stone colour of the rocks in the upper part of the photo.
In the WS two remarkable columns that were apparently sawn off.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Ian, this is quite a surreal scene with the modern building, cars and road in the foreground backed by the tufa chimneys.
Seeing the turkey made me smile, it looks so out of place!
The chimneys are amazing, there are so many.
Thanks for the W/S shots too.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hi Ian,
lovely series of photos from Cappadocia. I was there just on an organized tour and the weather was not great so I had a glimpse but not as much time as I would like to spend in this amazing place. Having captured turkey in Turkey is the funniest thing ever!

Hello Ian,
It is not obvious that these are scans!
I had forgotten how close these tufa houses were to the more modern buildings abs thoroughfares. They are still amazing! To some extent, they remind me of a poorly maintained cathedral! Any this cathedral was made by nature!!!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)
