Photographer's Note

In the southwest corner of the First Courtyard of Topkapı Palace is Hagia Irene (Greek: Αγίας Ειρήνης) or Hagia Eirene, Byzantine Greek: Ἁγία Εἰρήνη, meaning "Holy Peace", Turkish: Aya İrini). It was an Eastern Orthodox church converted to an arsenal for storing weapons until the 19th century. The Hagia Irene today operates as a museum and concert hall.
