Ortahisar, the Middle Castle, a photo from Nevsehir, Central Anatolia

Photographer's Note

Ortahisar (it means "middle castle") is one of the 2 natural rocky "castles" in the region of Cappadocia. The other one is Uchisar (it means "edge castle"). It's one of the most beautiful villages of the region, with very kind and hospitable inhabitants. They take life easy, time passes very slowly in Ortahisar.

Whoah...never knew these places still existed in turkey. youve taken us places without our moving an inch, an honour to have you around bringing us the unexplored corners of the world. People actually live in these places..quite a vantage point to have covered the expanse with the vertical..

Hello Hercules,
The rocky 'castle' looks wonderful, specially from this POV that allows a great view on the village with the houses built behind each other upon the hill.
The colour of the rock and of the empty spaces between the houses contrasts heavy with the fa蓷des and with the blue sky.

I have never seen it before. It does not look real at all!
The town is fantastic, amazing stylish architecture surrounding the incredible rock.
Excellent presentation as usual. The vertical frame emphasizes the mountain. Beautiful sky with nice clouds. Perfect light and colors.

It looks like a surrealistic painting!
or maybe Jeronimus Bosh... in any case it has a stunning effect. Light, colours, contrast and shapes: everything is so intense, condensed and... erupting!
Caves like homes and homes like caves! What a strong image! Of course it has many other qualities but it's the strenght which I feel most here.

A wonderful photo of an amazing place! The landmark in the middle, the old natural fortress with its honeycombed caves is a real eye-catcher. But it seems the caves and tunnels are spread all over the area! Good control of light, beautiful well saturated colours, excellent depth and sharpness and a skilful composition in vertical format.
