Photographer's Note
went with the whole family for a ride, the weather was changing all the time, from sun to rain, to freezing rain, and while the light, especially for a mid day, was occassionally good, I didn't come across any situation that would really draw my attention, so when my wife decided to step out of the car for a smoke, I decided that I must have at least one picture from that day.
Not completely happy with it but still like it, would have been nice to have something balancing it off on ther right, perhaps boat or a person at the end of the dock (my son was sleeping in the car, he could have solved the problem).

Hi Peter
It is the offbalance and the emotion (person feeling cold) in the picture that I like .. i would have liked the see your wife in the photo even more a bit towards the left and a more clear photo of the dog too ... neways another thing i like about the photo is the strom brewing up in the picture ... nice shot man .. i like it .. I think it grows up on you ... cheers

Nice atmosphere here. End of the world feeling... Good shot if it was the only one...

Wonderously moody shot, Peter. Great tones and very good framing with good depth. It would have been great to have your dog's face visible, but the poor dog did not listen to you! :)

Hi! What cold and rainy weather recently, huh? The thumbnail drew my attention instantly; I like the dark and moody feeling you've captured and the shape provided by the dock or jetty (I don't know its name).
Looks like you have a rottie! Too bad we can't see the dog's face more but I find her (his?) position very complimentary to the photo.
Very nice.

I think you've got quite a good balance here thanks to the L-shape pier and the rock in the lower right.
Also, the texture of ripples in that enclosed part seems to be different from the water surface in the distance, so the balance on the right is satisfactory to me.
I have to agree with Sarju here about the dog.
Everything else is just fine and I really like it as it is and waiting is well conveyed here.

Hi Peter, this is a good BW work, distinctively has your fingerprints. Rich composition, excellent exposure and good theme.
cheers.

The halo of white light above the head of the person makes the shot for me. If it were just dark clouds the effect would have been much different and less powerful. I also agree about the dog, but sometimes you can't control things as much as you would want to. The tones are just great as well, but a little on the gray side (boost of contrast is a must, I think). Anyway, at the end of the day a very compelling image. Good one, Peter.

Hi Peter,
Good sky, nice tones.
Only the (minor) fact that the hund's head is little hidden is not so good.

Very nice picture indeed. I love her position - I can almost feel the cold. I would maybe have cropped the left also but that's very personnal. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Peter,
I don't mind there not being anything on the right, my thing is more the dog's head being blocked by your wife's leg. A second earlier would have been better IMO. Also maybe you could have called him over so that he was coming towards the camera... but that would mean a diff mood for the shot as well.
Anyways, it doesn't seem like much fun out there these days huh? Seems like a spectacular spring! ;) And this shot's from Keswick huh? Now there's a place I haven't been in a long time...
Cheers!

I love the luminocity of the sky framing your wife and the emptyness of the RHS for me is spot on as it balances the image, anything on that side would compete to much.
Reminiscent of Elliot Erwit's series on dogs.
Nice portfolio by the way.

Hi Peter,
A fine view, the deep darks and nice metalic tones in the greys looks great... and the sky, of course, is superb... great exposure throughout... I just wish there was no overlapping of the dog and man.
