Let's Pick Up Our Bags and Go Places, a photo from Ontario, Central

Photographer's Note

This was taken at Toronto𠏋 Pearson International Airport, at the end of the first leg of my flight from Pittsburgh to Istanbul. It is a one last look at Air Canada Express Canadair CL-600-2B19 Regional Jet CRJ-100ER that took me on the 36 minute hop from PITT to YYZ.

Since the luggage bins of regional jets are not as large as those of long haul jets, regional carriers in the U.S. and Canada provide a planeside check for larger carry-on bags. They are carried in the cargo compartment of the airplane but delivered to the passengers at the destination gate without going through the regular luggage handling system. Passengers pick them up at the gate and are able to take them in the cabin of their next flight. In this photo, we can see one last bag waiting to be picked up by its owner on the trolley.

Hello Murat,

I do not like this airport and Air Canada, as it is here that my backpack was lost (and never found) and I had to travel in Cuba without my cloths. Do not take it serious :). I got recompensation (250 USD), and I travelled light, so not so bad.
Nice scene at the airport. My plane was a big long haul jet, so the backpack should be on the belt.

What appearing from your note, Murat, would never happend here in Israel: besides security, that's a cost savings by the airline - but what would you do, let's say, on a snowy weather... even just rain and cold? carry you own bags? not to believe this is in a modern airport !
I like the whole plane shown, a fine vivid photo with the people in action.

Hello Murat,
A nice photo expressing some of the excitement still usually connected with flying, at least when you know the next leg of your journey will be a long intercontinental flight. This procedure of picking up large hand-baggage outside the plane is actually quite common in Europe too. People tend to bring more and larger bags onto the planes all the time.

Merhaba Murat.

I was also a bit spooked by the MS 804 flight incident just a couple of days after my uneventful MS 748 flight from Athens. But there was another bomb in Istanbul just this week & I am hoping you were not anywhere near it. 4 civilians were killed along with 7 police officers. Like Elvis used to sing its now or never, and many people are not going to allow the threat of terrorism to disrupt their travel plans as depicted here. Tfs!

Interesting and also funny picture. I can㦙 remember we had to collect our luggage this way when I was at YYZ arriving from NY. But I think I was lucky, for I can remember that Malgo had also some problems with Toronto Airport. I like your excellent picture of this situation.

Hello Murat,

This is in Belgium impossible, around a airplane or airport free with bags.
One hour to three hour wait for your bag.
Pleasant photography made with a very good quality.
An excellent composiition nice presentation too.
