Photographer's Note

This is the mouth of Mission Creek, not far from downtown Kelowna, near Canada's west coast, where I live.

In the spring, the river rages down to the lake. But at this time of year, after the dry summer, it is barely moving, making for a peaceful scene under the willows.

In the distance, the seagulls are resting on the sandbars. Beyond that is Okanagan Lake, some 135 km. long and 4 to 5 km. wide. It's maximum depth is 232 metres, which is deep enough to harbour the aquatic serpent-like creature occasionally spied (but never photographed) by locals or the many summer tourists. Some time ago, one of the towns on the lake offered $1million to anyone who could prove the existance of the elusive creature called "Ogopogo". However, the offer, which was apparently insured by Lloyds of London, was withdrawn, for fear of injury to the creature or, some say, because the insurance company decided the risk was too great!
