Photographer's Note
Please view the super crisp/sharp image on TE beta by clicking here STEVESTON FISHING BOATS.
In my previous post i said I would next upload the wedding couple at the Chinese Gardens in Vancouver.
However plans change. Instead I uploaded that photo as the WS on the main photo.
Now to this one.
Time to get back to my love for the Blue Hour. For whatever reason i've been getting away from shooting blue hours. Time to change that and show you a group which I took in the past couple of days.
I assure you the blues you see here are natural and NOT saturated, there is NO saturation in this photo at all. Its a late blue hour shot, an exposure over 20 seconds with my tripod.
In the WS i'll show you two more shots, taken a few minutes before blue hour, you can clearly see the difference in the lighting and ambience.
This is Steveston, in Richmond. Richmond is a city just outside of Vancouver. Ironically, Richmond is the location of the Vancouver Airport...confusing right? haha
If you have a thing for fishing boats, sea food restaurants, you'll love Steveston. Its a great place to take any TE members who visit, I'll show you around :)

Hi Craig
Seems that there are a few members who weren't alive when I took my India photos! But don't worry I still class myself as middle aged.
This is a great night photos of the fishing fleet and better still in the large version. Good night reflections, colour and sharpness.
cheers

Bonjour, cher Craig,
Moment délicieux où le ciel prend une couleur bleue du meilleur effet et cela d'une façon naturelle.
Les prises de vue sont très bonnes et rendent compte d'un port de pêcheurs en haute mer.
Très bonne journée.
Amitiés.

hello Craig, Original picture in your gallery and I like it more than highrise buildings :). The blues are fantastic and the sharpness is stunning. Awesome picture.
I am sure I would like Steveston and specially with a good guide :). Maybe somewhen? Not now. On Monday I go for my next short trip. You will be surprised hahaha.
Have a nice day

Hello Craig ,
A quite classical composition in a fishing port . But what makes this picture amazing is the superb capture at the blue hour with splendid colors , contrasts and reflections .

Hello Craig,
Very nice contrasts between the mainly dark blue sky and the almost black water. The warm lights from the ships' lanterns create a cosy evening atmosphere and are very nicely reflected. It's a pin-sharp photo with a superb clarity.
I think you were only allowed one WS to this because you had already used one WS for the wedding couple. That's quite a cute photo by the way, and I honestly think it would have made a better main upload than the one you used the other day.
Best wishes,
Gert

Hello Craig,
incredible sharpness considering an exposure time of 20 seconds. I thought boats always move a bit, even if moored to a concrete quai.
Perfect and beautiful!
Kind regards,
Elvira

Hello Craig,
Three interesting photographs with your main post standing out because of the depth of its colours and reflections.
The main boat is strongly placed, its reflection adding to the impact. There is a natural movement into the b/g, where lights and reflections command attention.
Sometimes it's good to return home and enjoy what is your heritage!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)
p.s. Did you see the note I added to your critique of my last photograph?

Bonjour Craig
La première chose que l'on remarque avec ton heure bleue c'est le ciel encore un petit peu clair qui contraste avec le bleu profond de l'eau. La deuxième chose c'est la belle lumière sur les bateaux qui sont d'une netteté remarquable.
Amicalement

Hello Craig,
Good idea to banish the Chinese bride and groom to the workshop and today make way for this wonderful series of fishing boats.
I recognize this beautiful gradient of blue in the sky from a crisp clear winter day when the temperature is close to zero and the sun has just set.
You then get the most beautiful combinations of natural and artificial light and if you set your camera well, like you did, the most beautiful photos
Excellent work
Have a nice day, groet Rob

Hello Craig,
A great blue hour photo! The deep blue of the sky and water is fantastic and the contrast with the warm lighting on some of the ships is very appealing as well. The sharpness and clarity are amazing, but I love the reflections most of all. Great work!

Hello Craig,
A magnificent blue-hour picture over the port, where the boats beautifully illuminated and reflected upon the water surface.
A photojob immaculately done, as always.
Have a nice new day,

Hello, Craig!
The blue hour really makes this scene so special! Everything looks so calm here, as the water that makes a perfect reflection of the boats and their many details. The light has been perfectly managed and the sharpness is excellent! Wonderful composition!

HI Craig,
The reflections on the water are assets to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the boats. The blue hour light has a special effect on the colours. Have a nice day.

Hi Craig,
brilliant blue hour in the harbour.
You were so lucky with the weather: there was probably no wind hence the surface of the water is so smooth.
I took once a series of photos in a similar port in Ireland, it was so picturesque but the wind was strong and all the boats kept moving, which I didn't notice because on the little screes they looked fine. So the boats were all blurred and since they were main theme the photos were just rubbish.
So luckily here they are crispy sharp.
The light is the strongest point with the white aura in the sky adding so much beauty,
Excellent work,
M

Ciao Craig
anche se era molto tempo che non ci mostravi una foto dell'ora blu, hai recuperato molto bene con un bellissimo colpo.
Un meraviglioso mix tra cielo e luci artificiali supportato da un fantastico riflesso.
Saluti

Hi Craig
It's not the Greek Islands, Croatia or the French Riviera, but somewhere right in your own backyard! It's surprising sometimes that you can often get better shots in your own neighborhood. This is a classic example of that. Perfect sharpness and color with wonderful reflections. Tfs!
Ps, I stayed in the Cosmo Hotel in Chisinau for 25 Euro a night and booked chauffeur driven tours to Cricova, Tiraspol, Mileștii Mici, the winter church at Capriana and Orheil Vechi. None of them were that expensive. There was a booking counter beside the main ground floor hotel entrance. And the London Steakhouse across the road had great cuisine. Seafood and Chicken meals as well as steak. There was an Andys Pizza place down the road past the train station.

Hello Craig
Three lovely photos from your walk in this maritime environment. The main photo is delicious! I love the deep blue tones, and the water surface is so calm and provide stunning reflections. Splendid details in this crisp and clear shot, and i like how you can see the flag is blurred by the exhaust of the fishing boat. Splendid blue hour shot! Thanks.
Greetings, Erling

Hi, Craig.
Both this photo and the two of the WS, are fantastic and difficult to decide which I like more, but the balance is tilted a little more by the port where you see the colorful houses, it is beautiful. Without detracting from this one that at the blue hour acquires a special charm, the boats look wonderful with their soft reflections.
Perfect sharpness, exposure, colors and POV are excellent.
Very well made. I like it
Enjoy a good day.
Very best regards.
Luis.
