Photographer's Note

I've added the information you asked for: This bear was found near by Jasper beside a little bedraggled street from a car. So I stayed in the car while taking this photo. I had to use the full optical zoom range. It's a black bear, even if his fur isn't black. The bear appeared suddenly between the scrub and didn't care about the car. It ate flowers unhindered. At once he noticed something and rised to look. After that, it walked slow-going away, not observing the car.

I use a Sony DSC-S75 with a Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar 2/7-21 lens.

Impressing and rather alarming, was I would have liked to know has how much meters it you? to have time to take the photograph and to take it well seen well .

I think that taking a predator shot (in a wild nature) is always worth of big smile. I would like to know more about the situation you took this shot at: what kind of lens you used, how near the bear was, were you hidden, what happened after shooting...?

This is a very captivating shot. As suggested by Dominique and Olli, more notes on shooting conditions would be appreciated. You seem to be quite close, though, and, for having spent some time around Banff and in the Jasper park, I can tell you, this was a high risk! Nevertheless, it's a beautiful shot, and you've got the bear perfectly in it's natural way. Superb!

I might have wished the bear was further to the left, so he wasn't smacked down in dead center, but I won't ask you to go back and ask him for another attempt. Maybe a bit of cropping out the left would help it along.
What's he looking at? And why isn't he looking at you? Definitely a good situation for more notes!

This is an excellent wildlife shot. I agree with the others that I would love to know what equipment you used, more of the story, etc. I also think that cropping the left third of this shot would improve the composition greatly. Things just are not as interesting on a centered photo. Since it would be so simply done to crop it, the photo is still worth the big smile.

This bear almost seems like a dog. I suppose bears are a little like dogs without tails. Both his facial expression and position of ears, snout, seem familiar. An excellent capture of the pose, well timed. It looks as though this bear has been swimming somewhere earlier or perhaps his underside is dampened by dew upon the grass. He looks very cuddly from this vantage point. The foreground grass is overexposed and there are a few other such details, but I love the image of the bear itself.

I love this photo, but agree that cropping the bear a little to the left would be nice. I have darkened the photo a bit also.

Hi Andreas, You did well to get such a close up of this large bear. It was standing straight and tall. The lack of anything human make it an impressive composition. The forest behind is the perfect backdrop. TFS. Murray.
