Photographer's Note
Dual meaning in the title. This shot was taken at about 9:50 pm Alberta time, just before the sun set, long after all the other tourists had gone to their hotels and campgrounds. We were on our way back from Maligne Lake and got some of the best light I've ever gotten, breaking through the clouds as a storm approached. There were only a handful of people as I pulled over to the side of the road, rolled down the window, and snapped this shot.
The other meaning is that although I've long liked this photo, there were a lot of distractions in the camera crop that made me avoid posting it much earlier. I hadn't quite figured out a good way to crop this one without losing some of the cool light until I hit upon a very simple solution: crop it more as a panorama-style shot. Amazingly simple, and surprising that I didn't think of it sooner.
This is beautiful Medicine Lake, one of the most recognizable spots in Jasper National Park, and indeed all of Alberta.

Hi Clark. I have just discovered your gallery after seeing your latest photo and I must say that you must be one of the best conjurers of nature's grand and beautiful panoramas. The light here is glorious and the colours almost too spectacular. But then that is what drove the forefathers in both Canada and America to set aside these unspoiled treasures for future generations to enjoy. Your Ireland shots are special also. Regards. Klaudio.

breath taking shot
I've been to Alberta many times but havent had the good fortune of seeing these particular mountains,
Great dramatic sky, the colours and mist from below make it look like a valley of gold.

Hi Clark,
A great visual tribute to Canadian Rockies in all their splendor.
It's a good thing you could figured out the way to present us this stunning landscape where the light creates all the magic. The clouds are quite spectacular and contribute a lot to the uniqueness of your shot.
I've been along this road by four occasion during the same month (it's a long road back and forth...), as I was trying to catch the best light over Maligne Lake, but I've never seen anything like this, although I was coming back to Jasper at about the same time as you.
So good things come to those who wait, but a little luck from Mother Nature can help as well.
Gorgeous!

You've said it all in the title of the photo.
The sunlight is truly magical here and you managed to achieve a lovely composition and very good and sharp quality of the picture. The cropping seems to be very effective, too.
Thanks for sharing!

Another magic moment. You are right, in photography "waiting" is a good rule. Wait for the right light, for the right moment, for the person passing by in the right place with the right dress, etc.
