Calgary Public Library - Interior

To make a good comparison between the libraries of Vancouver, Seattle and Calgary, it is of course also important to look at the design, atmosphere and functionality of the buildings inside.

Is the library in Vancouver a square box in the round Colosseum-shell; The Calgary library is the other way around.
When you enter the more or less square building, the curved oval shapes of the stairwell dominates the view. All public spaces are grouped in an open, transparent connection around the impressive staircase.
No matter how photogenic the building is, the photos do not do justice to the fantastic atmosphere that all this exudes wherever you are in the building
It is a building that you enjoy to visit as often as possible.
To read, learn and meet other people or participate to other activities.

We should not forget to mention the security guard/attendant who kindly addressed us at the entrance and proudly provided us with some brochures of the building.
On our departure, we congratulated him and the city of Calgary with this fantastic library.

Hallo Rob

The bison constructed entirely out of letters is an apt decoration in this library. Good interior shot with wonderful curves and lines everywhere. Excellent sharpness & I like the repeating patterns of the V shaped stairs and balconies above. Tfs!

Hello Rob,

Though you tell us the photographs do not do justice to the building, I am completely overawed by what you have shown us! The photographs are amazing so the building must be super-amazing!
I just love the use of the light coloured wood; it curves and twists, taking us on a magical journey!
The designer has had a wonderful concept and you have done him/her justice with the trio of photographs.
The bison, head alert, is patiently watching for trouble!
But, no-one would dare, to misbehave, here, nor should they!

I love all three and will place them in my favourites. 👍

Attractive wood-work to the interior of the museum, and the diff. brown tones mingle beautifully under the light inside.
The metal statue of the Buffalo wort a close-up picture of its own, IMHO.

Hello Rob,
While I found the exterior of this library as being nice but "relatively conventional", I am stunned to see the interiors. This is a masterpiece of design and light management (yes, the photos too, but I was mainly thinking of the building). I really like the elegant curves, the spacious impression and the soothing effect of the light wood. My favourites are this photo, for the buffalo and one but a very well placed person, and the Middle Floor, for the number of persons animating the view in every part and on every level.

Hallo Rob,
Heb je er nu een heleboel mensen uit weggephotoshopt? In mijn herinnering was het een stuk drukker. De grote letterbizon staat er in ieder geval wel op, samen met de prachtige gekromde lijnen van de houten balustrades. Het licht was nog wel het moeilijkst om hier goed te krijgen, maar dat is uitstekend gelukt in alle drie de foto's.

Ik denk dat het een moeilijke beslissing was om uit deze drie foto's een hoofdfoto te kiezen.
Misschien heeft de bizon de doorslag gegeven ...
De drie foto's zijn super mooie composities van een fantastisch interieur.
Ik had al geschreven dat ik de buitenkant van dit gebouw mooi vond. Het interieur is gewoonweg super!
Ik vrees enkel dat de bezoekers van de bibliotheek te weinig in hun boeken kijken wanneer ze zich in zo'n fantastisch gebouw bevinden.
Fijn dat je de stad Calgary via de bewaker gefeliciteerd hebt.

Hello Rob, Fantastic interior of this library in Calgary. I like the wooden elements very much. Interesting sculpture of the bison from letters. Awesome composition.

Hello Rob, with such a fantastic building, you must have found it difficult to know which to choose as the main post.
All three give us a real flavour of the library. I like the 'middle floor' shot, there is so much to see in this shot, and it illustrates even more of the building.
All are taken with your expert eye at composing interesting and informative pictures.

you're right, seems like this Library is all about the interior, while the Van library is all about its exterior. Too bad they both can't have both. the main post here really shows off that wood interior so well. Not sure what the Bison is all about though haha. I guess perhaps Bison roam the Alberta fields. sweet shot of this interior. cheers

De trap met dame is echt het best om een volwaardig foto te cre褰en.
Natuurlijk de architecturale van de trap is perfect gefotografeerd.
De buffel is een extra toevoeging en vult mooi de voorgrond op.

An interesting modern interior architecture - what an engaging stairs with its dynamic layout rising from lower third as a lead in. You've got the colour tones, vivid detail and exposure spot on, excellent viewpoint, pespective and depth. Human interaction is another strong key point well blended into the scene, Always a pleasure t view, great effort....

from inside it is even more impressive. I liekd the shapes in the upper part and I liked the bison too. excellent view, a beautiful surprise in this town whose images aren't so evident.

Rob, spectacular and spacious library interior, impressive work to make the wooden staircase. The sculpture representing a bison placed in the middle of the ground floor holds the visitors attention.
