Photographer's Note

Every Mexican town has a patron saint. Most often, the town is named after the saint. And when that saint's day comes around on the calendar, the town throws a fiesta -- and the bigger and more colorful, the better.

San Jose del Cabo is the older town of the pair of towns known as "Los Cabos" at the tip of the Baja peninsula. (The other is the newer Cabo San Lucas; the corridor between the two towns has been developed into a resort center for sport fishing, golf, and spring break.) San Jose retains some of its charm, and in March, they host a week-long festival to celebrate the day for San Jose.

This foto was shot with my very first digital camera, a Kodak point-and-shoot with a staggering TWO WHOLE MEGAPIXELS of resolution! Well, when I got it in 2001, it was staggering. By the time this foto was taken in 2005, it was beyond obsolete. But it was easy to use and inconspicuous to carry, and often rendered colors quite well -- especially in bright morning sun like I enjoyed here. This foto has had only very minimal post-processing, including (and this is a first for me) some LOWERING of the saturation!
