Photographer's Note

Teotihuacan is some 50 kilometers away from M憖ico City and one of most significant pre-Columbian archeological sites in Latin America.

Not only pyramids and temples, but in its time Teotihuacan was the city with the largest population in the Americas, multi-floor residential compounds, and an impressive ceremonial architecture.

A broad avenue (The Avenue of the Dead) runs through Teotihuacan over two kilometers, joining the residential and market areas in one extreme, with the Pyramid of the Moon in the other.

Teotihuacan𠏋 construction started around the year 200BC, the city reached its peak around 400AD, and had completely collapsed around 700BC. As it happens with the Mayas, archeologists do not agree on the reasons of the city𠏋 fall.

The photo shows the Plaza of the Moon, with the homonymous Pyramid in the background, at one of the ends of the Avenue of the Dead.

In the WS there is a photo of the Avenue, with the Pyramid of the Sun in the background. (Although not as tall as the pyramids in Egypt, because of their width, these pyramids are the largest after the Giza constructions).

As a side note, the photo was taken just before the rain season (after some months of drought) and with a close volcano having a little activity.

That meant very bad light conditions!

Hello Carlos,
Very nice panoramic view of this interesting archeological site. I visited this site in 1965, it looked quite different then. There was a lot of green space, grass and shrubs around the pyramids in the area which is paved now. I am looking forward seeing more of your pictures of this site.

Hi Carlos,

Despite the poor lighting, this is still a wonderful shot.
The city was one of the first to be built on the modern grid system.
It was also one of 6 most important cities in the 1500s (along with Beijing,
Delhi, Seville, Istanbul and Timbuktu).

We see very clear the stairs, also nice depth and perspective.

hola Carlos, acabo de regresar de M憖ico pero 廥ta vez he visitado playas y m嫳 playas...un pa疄 muy bonito con mucha cultura, historia y belleza natural..prefiero la tua Argentina si me permites..

Lovely site with old days ruins.I love archaelogical sites as they tell us the history of old days in pictorial version. Nice image, sharp with good details, well saturated colors and nice composition. Well done.

La presencia de la gente con sus ropas de colores a鎙de un toque de vitalidad, una eficaz referencia, y un bonito contraste crom嫢ico sobre el conjunto, donde los tonos de las piedras y el cielo azul juegan un buen papel est彋ico.
