Juarez, a photo from Chihuahua, Northwest

Photographer's Note

Another shot taken with my old film camera using Fuji 200 iso. "Juarez is unlike many border towns in that it is a major city with over a million inhabitants. However, most foreign tourists will still enjoy the same elements of stereotypical Mexican culture that they do in other border towns such as Nogales, Tijuana, and Nuevo Laredo."

Things to see: The Guadalupe Mission, The Cathedral, El Chamizal, San Jose Church, Juarez History Museum Samalayuca Dunes, Art and History Museum, Monument to Benito Ju嫫ez, San Agustin Regional Museum

The full name of this town is Ciudad Ju嫫ez. I've used a wide angled lens here & gone with the center verticals being perpendicular. Both the far right & far left are tilted from lens barrel distortion.

What looks like sloppy pp work around the twin spires of the Cathedral at left, is in fact mesh netting, to stop pigeons. Due to gang violence & murders, I explored this city in daylight hours, & went back to El Paso in west Texas before sundown. Why?

"Over 5000 people, including some foreigners, have been killed since the beginning of 2009. Though most murders are related to the drug trade, the city remains unsafe for anyone caught in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Also the two towers are splendid for look at.
Lovely cityscape, but also a lovely green square in foreground.

Hi Chris, You are searching your archives, as I can see. Nice compostion fromthe Mexican town.It looks to me quire typical, seems a bit similar to Puebla. Certainly to be in wrong place in wrong time could be unpleasant. Horrible note. WEhwn I was in Mexico, in 2001, many people were afraid to go to Chiapas, we went and survived.

Hello Chris,

A nice composition of this square with a view of the cathedral whose spires rising high. Looks like a very busy place with many people sitting idle. The colors, light management and sharpness are excellent. Agree with your note that such a beautiful country has become very unsafe.
