The village of Catavina, Mexico sits in the heart of the Baja Peninsula. Around this area is one of the most interesting deserts in North America. It is actually the south-west edge of the Sonoran Desert. Here are huge bolders and rock formations with scattered strange plants and cacti like the Elephant Tree pictured here.

This is scanned from a slide (Kodachrome, I believe) taken on a truck/trailer trip over the winter of 1996 / 1997. I used a Contax body with a Ziess 50mm lens and poloarizer filter. I left the black border of the slide.

The drive down is still a real adventure, highly recommended for anyone who enjoys the out of way places.
