Photographer's Note

Here is a closeup of the South Manitou Lighthouse. This picture was taken from the observation deck near the top of the lighthouse and looks out over Lake Michigan. The fog from earlier in the day was just lifting, exposing a beautiful lake of blue-green water.

To get up to this point, you go up a long winding staircase, which I posted as a workshop. The staircase is unique because it is not attached to the walls of the lighthouse, but rather a free-standing unit of identical building blocks attached up the center.

I like the contrast of B&W (with the ascent of aqua blue) on the picture, and u also added the frame to accentuate this. The angle of the light house creates a slight vertical perspective. Nice!

Lovely shot here, Amber. Composition, colour and contrast are excellent. I like how the water fades into the sky without revealing a defined horizon. Good work.

A unique perspective from/of a lighthouse- one would never guess that this was taken in Michigan (unless you've been to this lighthouse. :D) I love the contrast of the white and black of the lighthouse and the almost tropical feel of the water. I don't know what you think about cropping, but I think this image would be good if the top part were cropped out as well- from about the second brick above that black bell shaped thing on the lighthouse. That would give you a different type of composition, making the railing and the bell thing stronger elements. I think in part I find the sky distracting from the wonderful color of the water. That's a personal call though.
