Photographer's Note

142 West 31st Sttheres not a tourist attraction or anything particular along this street, but I happened upon this fire station one afternoon while out for a walk. I always enjoy taking some time to roam the streets around the neighborhood where Im staying, and this instance turned out a nice little photo opportunity. As my dumb luck would have it, I was able to catch the bay door open and a fireman that came walking by just as I lined up the shot.

Not sure how accurate these numbers are, but I found these statistics online: There are 221 fire stations, 11,600 firefighters, 3,214 paramedics, 196 fire engines, and 146 trucks in New York City. Its the second largest in the world after the Tokyo Fire Department.

I dont know why, and have no specific reason for it, but the number 24 is my favoriteand would you look here, it found me with this particular hook and ladder! That was my initial reason for taking this picture, and it didnt take but another second to realize the red brick exterior. I lived in a red brick house growing up, so its always held a warm & fuzzy association for me. :)

Hats off to the brave men and women around the world who risk their lives to save ours!

I also found something else right next door that was an amusing surprise. Take a look at the WS picture, apparently I own a store I didnt know aboutand unfortunately, Ive never received money from it either!?

Thanks for stopping by.
