L.A. Marathon, a photo from California, West

Photographer's Note

I went to Los Angeles Marathon, 2010, event this past weekend. There were a lot of people with approximately 26,000 runners for 26 miles. It was really crowded. I was trying to find a place where I can use a clean background. And so I thought this background is nice with colors and repeating pattern. So I decided to sit right here waiting to spot whoever arrives at this spot.

Hi Sothy,

I think this is a cool shot of an intense athlete. I particularly like your choice of background as if no-one wishes to pay attention to him; accentuating the loneliness of the marathon sportsman.

nice shot. you were well rewarded for taking the time to think about the BG. Only thought is that a longer exposure & movement blur might have created a more dynamic image. cheers, steve

There is so much power in this shot, Sothy. Great work. Excellent background, although it looks almost like a studio portrait. The muscles on the forearm are great.

I too attended the Rome City Marathon last Sunday and I will post some pics soon. I like this because of the low POV and because of the note where you tell us how you took this shot. Yes, when taking such pics one of the biggest difficulties is just looking for a clean background. You did a great job here, congratulations!
