Lion Wave, a photo from California, West

Photographer's Note

This wave has a huge spray mane on top, like a lion. The coast in the background is Carmel.

the photo was taken with a telephoto lens but i don't know the focal length because the E-10 didn't record lens info in the EXIF.

Hello Tom

This is really a massive mane you have captured.
The sheer power in this wave is almost overwhelming, although the overall photo is slightly dark I still feel this only helps in enhancing the attention that the wave is already getting.
The photo seems tio me to bea little grainy, perhaps just a little digital noise. It is however very subtle and really doesn't affect the photo much.

Unbelievable. This is a fabulous wave shot with so much dynamics. i love the bird also in the picture, this is a beautiful composition.

Wonderful dark powerful image.

The contrast between the sharp foreground rocks and the diffuse background that frame the wave is really striking.

Dear Tom ... I just came over your Pacific Grove Gallery and I was not sure which one I should comment. They are all so special. But I do like the power of this wave ... I can almost feel the spray of the sea ... and this to me makes a picture, if you can feel something.

All the best for 2007 (the first day is almost "done", at least in Switzerland, with plenty of rain and heavy wind ...). Barbara.

Hi Tom,

you've got a lot of excellent wave shots in your gallery but I like this one because of the power the wave portrays, the softness of the apex and the bird in front of it. Lovely composition with the rocks in the foreground and the trees behind. The wave is well placed in the frame and you've caught the light very well. A fantastic image, well seen.
