Photographer's Note

California is fortunate to have three of the "Most" living things: the tallest tree, the Redwood, the largest, the Sequoia, and the oldest, the Bristlecone Pine.

A few of the White Mt. Bristlecone Pines are estimated to be 4,000 years old. Meaning they were alive before the 4th Dynasty Egyptian pyramids were built. Many more trees are only a mere two thousand years old.

These guys survive in a hostile enviorenment of arctic like winter temperatures and desert soil with little rain in the 10,000 to over 12,000 feet above sea level.
They are battered by wind and lightning strikes. Most are under 30 feet in height.

The Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest is off Highway 168 east of Big Pine, Calif.
The highway continues on to Death Valley National Park.
