Photographer's Note
This Panoramic of shot digitally on a Nikon D1, f8 for a variety of different exposure times. This image is three separate panoramas put together, similar to a split exposure, each exposed for a part of the scene over a four hour period. Each panoramic consists of 12 frames for a total 36 frames. It was all compiled in PS with an almost equal amount of masks. There were only minor color corrections. The final version has a lot more punch and detail, but this is the best I can get it for this forum. Please be specific in your comments.

Lovely shot! In some ways I really enjoy the excesses of Christmas decoration in North America, in other ways it makes me cringe ;-) Your blended exposure technique appears to have worked well to give you plenty of sky detail/colour whilst allow the lights to shine brightly too. Further critical comment is difficult at this size though - there is a "Large Panorama" option if you click on your username/Manage then there should be a "Large Post" link under the Options heading. An excellent first shot :-D

I love San Diego, if it were not 14 hours drive from where I live, I would drop by at Christmas. One of my favorite things is viewing the light displays. This one is good. I can find no evidence of stiching. Colors are warm, the sky is a lovely shade of blue. Good job.

Very nice first posting, Craig. The Christmas decorations look kind of tacky, but at the same time oddly touching. Excellent handling of exposure. As I'd love to explore more detail, I'm with Adrian in suggesting that you'd be able to post a larger and more detailed "panoramic" version of this one. Welcome to TE - great start, and I hope to see more of your pictures soon!

I am sure, this is a great photo, bit it does suffer from 800 pixel limitation. If you have the full size version somewhere else, can you post a link?

Nice shot. There's one thing missing though - the surfer driving past (ala "L.A. Story"). I live a few hundred miles north where the same kind of thing goes on, but we don't have the totally illuminated palm trees dude!

Gorgeous Christmas Lights!
Taken at very suitable time. A blue light which remains in the sky makes much more dramatic. excellent photo with which a noise is not felt at all.
Merry Christmas, Craig!
