Between the Falls

North Fork of the Saint Vrain River
Between Lower and Upper Copeland Falls
Copeland Falls/Calypso Cascade/Ouzel Falls Trail
Wild Basin Area
Rocky Mountain National Park

Continuing along with this little series from the Copeland Falls area .. one of my favorite "intimate" places in Rocky Mountain National Park.

The lower and upper falls are each small but powerful cascades .. this little spot is roughly half the size of each of those little falls .. I have always called it the "Middle Falls"

Andrew and I just sat here together between the falls for an hour today .. a good day to sit in the cool dark spring woods.

Hi John,
The slow exposure gives this mountain brook a magical feel as the water thunders over the masssive boulders that have trapped the dead limbs.

What a capture!
I like so much the mistic effect got with the low shuter speed, the smooth quality on the river flow is pretty good.
It's very good also the way you managed to fit into the frame all the rocks and trunks to build this excellent composition.
A very special feeling when looking to your favorite place here.

Hi John, this is a dark one. At first (from the thumbnail) I thought this was a black and white. In the main shot of course I see the subtle earthy browns and greens. 4 seconds works well here. This is a beautiful wash you've created, you can almost hear the water flowing in this shot. I can picture the two of you sitting there for an hour watching this. Beautiful spot.

This picture has something mystic -also because of the technic used by the photographer. This contrast between the hard rock and the smooth, silky water is incredible and the bit of colour - all is most interesting and as I said - somehow mystic, and very beautiful! A great place ...

John, there are tow things a like a lot. The partial desaturation giving an eerie atmosphere and the long shutter effect of the water. A not very easy thing to do. my experience is that the white of the water gets easily overexposed, but that is not what happened here. Perfectly well managed light conditions.

You've got quite a few posts of this beautiful water fall. I always like these long exposure shots of water, and you're is perfect. I like this one the best with all of the different rocks and sticks in the water. It's a beautiful scene.

Love this shot John. The rocks and logs contrast beautifully with the smooth blurred water. It looks like a frame from the Disney cartoon Bambi. Do you remember the opening scene of the forest? (probably not) Anyway this looks just like it. Very nice.

hello john. the appereance of the water is so different and rare. solely in this photo I ve seen it this way. it looks as if there is smoke or fog right on the fall s surface. remarkable place and angle to take the photo

John,
I'm always up for a water shot!
This one has some plusses and minuses I think.
One the plus side you've kept the exposure under control on the water, avoiding that "one gigantic stream of white" look - which always seems pointless and unpleasant to me (others would disagree I'm sure!). Composition is also nice, with the various branches dipping in and out of the stream.
On the minus side, the whole shot looks a little blurred, or softened, possibly as a result of the application of some form of noise reduction - possibly in camera, possibly PP. This does somewhat detract from the shot as a whole in my opinion.
Nevertheless, a good shot & I hope you'll be able to resolve the "soft rocks" thing!
