Lily Lake under fresh snow:
Lily Lake - Rocky Mountain National Park
a fresh picture under fresh snow .. today was my glorious day of winter break .. I had a day off .. my wife was out of town .. all the kids had school (or prearranged sitter) .. so I had planned a day of shooting .. I had planned this last week and everybody got the flu .. so I took off this morning .. only to hear that my planned destination was under a winter driving advisory .. and then a minute later to hear the road was closed with an accident .. so I detoured and spent a day coasting more locally around some nasty winter mountain roads at a crawl ..dodging in and out of snow .. and jumping out for some shooting at some fun locals ..
I have a bunch of images of this lake stored up .. but few from this angle .. Normally this lake is shot to show the massive peaks which are to my left .. but today they are under thick clouds .. and the late morning winter sun .. but I found the thick forest under fresh snow and the distant peaks of the central part of the Park a pretty nice view.

John, There is always something special about a large vista of unbroken snow...and this photo provides that feeling perfectly. Nice work

There's a great feeling of 'being there' in this image - getting a shiver just looking at the picture..very well captured indeed!

Hi John,
Beautiful capture of the fresh snow on the lake with the rich blue sky. I love the way the snow has altered the color of the pine trees. Your dog must love this weather.

Hi John,
You did a great job with the exposure - the snow is true white and the sky is blue. Not easy to create contrast in conditions like these but you have done well.Good clarity and detail.Nicely composed though I may have had more foreground (lower angle maybe) to create more depth and a more decisive cut...just my opinion. All in all a lovely image....TFS and keep well.

Looks good to me John, nice composition with a great DOF it great how a bit of snow brings all the contrast out, the Lake looks tempting to walk out on to it, but then again perhaps it needs a few more days to get the Ice srong enough to hold up the weight of a man but I am sure that will come soon enough.
Lovely photo well captured.
Kind regards.

Perfect exposure John, especially with that large area of snow. Boy would I love to see scenery like that for real. An excellent image John.

hi john,
i'm afraid i missed Lilly Lake up until now, but i am glad i found it - such a beautiful view - with the amazing fresh snow blanket ... looks like a select place Snow Queen would choose for skating!

Hi John,
You have managed to capture the details so well, this draws ones attention to the trees on the mountains which are highlighted with snow. Sharp with good lighting, I am really impressed. TFS
