Photographer's Note
Autumn Water
Mill Creek Basin Trail .. Hollowell Park .. Rocky Mountain National Park.
I have posted a number of images from this place .. see the autumn theme to the left ..
It is one of my favorite haunts in any season but especially in autumn ..
The trail following bumbling little Mill Creek is surrounded by thick stands of aspen .. The aspen took over this swatch of forest when the earlier trees were logged to build many of the historic buildings in Estes Park .. In autumn you can spot the trail half way across the park as a belt of gold on the distant hillside ..
It is also one of the most quiet trails in the park .. there is no real destination on it .. it is part of a connecting system that joins some of the more popular trails ..

Hi John,
A few days less attentive and you already have a bunch of wonderful photos that I didn't see!
When I first looked at this one I thought "bah... it is nice but a bit too cluttered". Then I gradually changed my opinion - actually the "clutter" is part of its charm, as you managed to put a kind of order on those branches and leaves to make a beautiful abstract compo. And of course, there is that nicely blurred water.
Congratulations, I think that you were quite inspired that day.
Regards, José.

Hi John,
indeed the clutter is part of its charm, lots of small and interesting items abound and the colours are wonderfull. I just wonder if a faster shutter speed would have shown the mini 'waterfall' a little better? Having said that I still like it very much and my wife (an artist) thinks it's superb.

Soft and silky, cluttered and yet clean -- I like the mood of this as well as the richness of the colours.

Hello John -
A nicely composed and executed image. I can just hear the brook babbling along the side of the trail. It is a really nice touch to have the leaves in the lower right corner adding a touch of color to the rock. Excellent exposure, the veiling of the water is just perfect, and the sharpness is right on. Well done!
Thank you for sharing
John

I love the contrast between sharpness and detail of all the stationary elements here and the blur of the moving water and stones beneath. Regards. Latiff.

Hi John,
Beautiful in its simplicity, there is so much going on in this tiny strech of river. Many subtle excellent color changes in this beauty.

Hello John
What clinches the photograph is the slow shutter speed. As a result you've got great contrast between the rushing waters & the fixed onbjects. A simple composition, but how effective! Well seen John & really well taken
