Photographer's Note
We are looking down on Ruby Beach in Olympic National Park. It gets the name from the pink sand which is composed of tiny grains of garnet. In addition to the pink sand it has lots of driftwood, sea stacks, and tide pools. Ruby beach is considered one of the best beaches in the park and is certainly well represented already on TrekEarth. I wanted to find a bit of a different view than from the norm. The big rock in the distance should look familiar to anyone who's ever been there. Taken in the late morning.

Hey its funny I posted a photo of trees too today! But I love the background in this one alot more. Oh the rugged west coast. These trees have been beaten from severe winds, which is their signature for residing along the coast. Interesting photo Stephen..and very well done. I like the lighting on the ground cover in the foreground. That really sets the tone for the balance of the scene.

Hi Mr. Steve, What a view from here to the beach. You have well made use of the trees in the foreground to frame this picture. The foreground trees are also well used to show the contrast and the show the depth of the image. Good view over the rocks and the waves along the coast line. An impressive image. Well done.

Hi Stephen,
Your composition is almost like being on the Olympic Penninsula with the way you have shown the lacy trees against the foggy surf and rocks. It is amazing that you have cuptured such detail in the trees yet the waves are clearly visible in the fog; rocks in the fog I expect, blue water with whitecaps, no.
Well Done!! Pat

Hi Stephen
Wonderful repetition graphism & sharpness of the fg trees against the bluegrey bg. Excellent color lighting & contrast. I like the group of islands or 'stacks', in the sea & on the beach. Good work!

Hi Steve,
A very refreshing atmosphere that is actually somewhat cooler to the one from my own activities at this time !
I like the virgin coast feeling that I gather from this view and the good contrast between the greens and the sandy beach. Wondering how this would look like shot in a vertical format from a position to the right of this frame, which means having the trees to frame but not obstruating. Maybe you tried that one too ?
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

Bonjour Stephen,
une de ces plages très particulières de L'Olympic National Park, toujours avec ces entaines de troncs morts, et ici cette légère brume qui donne une ambiance trèsn spéciale un peu mystérieuse et inquiétante.
Bon cadrage par derrière ces arbres.
Best regards.
Daniel.

Very similar to one I have of Ruby Beach. It puts the size of the big rock into perspective as taken close up it doesn't look as big as it is. You have well conveyed the misty atmosphere.

Serwus Stephen !
Exceptional idea to show a beach through the wet forest. Combination of greens and grey tones is very mysterious and somehow perfectly suitable for such a sacred spot. One can easily feel the humidity all over. Amazing.
Be well,

Hi Stephen - I like this one a lot! The view through the trees actually adds to the interest in the scene, and gives this a great feeling of really being there. The typical gray west coast day actually works in your favour, giving this some nice, soft light. Great work!

Hi Stephen,
An original and effective POV for this fine shot. I like the low light ambience here, so typical of the West Coast rain forest. Your framing is well done, with the beach seen through the trees and the stream coming in from the right. Your exposure level seems just right so as to preserve the sharp details of the trees, bushes and shore. Very fine work, Steve.

Interesting view from the WA coast, Steve. I think the more distant look and the view 'in between' the trees works quite well on this one and gives an authentic look, as if the viewer were approaching the sea on foot. Good balance of light and contrasts, and a nice hazy effect towards the back.

Hej Stephen,
I like the mood in this picture created by the fog and the approaching waves on the sea. The part of the forest in front of the beach is also nice and the trees add a good contrast with the background. Good work!

Hi Stephen,
Intriguing picture. I think this is the best artistic solution but I like to see more of that mysterious grey rocks and the driftwood.

Hi Stephen,
Nice shot! I like the contrast of the dark trees against the beach in the background. Those rocks in the background look pretty cool - the way they are positioned reminds me of the 12 apostles here in Australia. Good job!

Hi Stephen,
A beautiful landscape, good idea with trees as foreground but maybe your shot would be better if you taken it with an other angle to see all the rocks.

Hi Stephen! I saw the washed out logs, and I could remember your previous post. The beach seems to be a nice one - it's quiet and no people around (yes, when I go to beaches, I prefer those with very few people as I don't like crowded beaches). Interesting view indeed, a different kind from your previous posts! rgds.

Bonjour Steve,
Une image qui plaît dès l'ouverture de la vignette. Il se dégage de cette composition une sérénité, une grande beauté, une impression d'entendre le vent chanter à travers les pins.
Une photo de grande qualité.

Nice atmosphere Stephen.
Had I taken this shot I would probably stepped back a little to try to make the rocks com in line of sight if possible. Good quality shot.

Great shot, this one goes back seemingly infinitely! The foreground silhouette work is great, and the picture as a whole just feels very secluded and isolated even if it is already very well represented here.
Nice work!

Hi Stephen - yes this is one of the more aesily accessible beaches of the Olypics, I like the original angle with the trees in between, the low light gives it a somber but interesting atmosphere, though it of course makes it harder to the the pinkness of the sand, which is, from what I recall, not exactly strikingly pink under any light.
