Photographer's Note
As this bull elk fed on the grasses I positioned myself so if and when he lifted his head and looked at me I would be ready with my camera on a tripod. After what seemed an eternity he finally looked right at me and I got this picture.
Scanned with a Nikon Super Coolscan 8000 at 4,000 dpi.
Edited in Photoshop CS where I increased saturation in the green colors and the brown tones on his back, sharpened with USM, cropped.
