Photographer's Note
El Yunque is a tropical rainforest on the island of Puerto Rico, and the only tropical forest in the United States National Forest System. the place gets its name from an Indian spirit Yuquiyu, which means "Forest of Clouds"; according to the legend, the good spirit Yuquiyu reigned on his mighty mountain-top throne, protecting the Taino people.
we were walking along the Big Tree Trail, and I felt such an abstract image would work best to capture the sense of the place - the aquarium-like green ligh, the dense foliage with just a suggestion of the shapes of the leaves. the image is straight from the camera, no postprocessing except resizing, minor sharpening and adding a frame; the blur effect is a result of the vertical movement of camera itself.

hi kristine,
I remember feeling the same sensation when I was in Costa Rica in one of the rain forests over there... your image is almost psychedelic, probably its "liquidness" along with the luscious green...
beautiful.

Hello Kristine,
Wow, great. It took some staring to figure out what you did here to achieve this effect. I think I saw this myself at one point in my life, but I had to lick one of those rain forest toads. Let me tell you, life gets real interesting after that...
Not that I recommend doing so, but it's cool that you could give us this effect without it!
Ok, my flashback is over. Thanks!

Hello Kristine,
Your photo captures perfectly the magic and mystery of the rain forest. The green color here is one of my favorites, and I like the effect you were able to create with the camera itself. It has a mesmerizing quality.

Hello Kristine,
There is a psychedelic effect here with the iridescent green and black stripes. The wide white frame around the image is evocative of the proportions of 35mm slide. And I see that you were there just three days ago.
Warm regards,

Hi Kristine,
I remember your photos of forest from last year and which were very interesting. You kept the same idea for this rain forest and the result is excellent. We dive into a very beautiful graphic universe guided by rays of light.
As I like very much the blue, I enjoied repainting your picture with Photoshop (I put it in WS. This kind of photo gives uncountable creative possibilities and I find that fantastic
Have a nice day

Hi Kristine
I love your abstract experiment. The sensation of a dense vegetation is well and truly here; and the blur adds some mystery. The emerald rainforest in all its splendor! Almost like a painting, that magnetises me. Congratulations.

Hi Kristine, I love this type of composition, almost abstract, but not quite. The green tones are amazing and I love that blur of the ferns. When I look at your photo, I feel instant calm, wish I could bottle it :) Thanks for sharing and enjoy your day, Lisa

curious effect you chose! but really charming and "speaking", as you say!
It seems a green, wet glass window on a sunny forest.
Strange and precious work!

Hello Kristine! What a beautiful result! As someone else mentions, it feels like looking through heavy glass. Also reminding me of the movie Green Card and this wonderful NY apartement with the greenhouse. You really caught the sense of this place. Not that I have a lot of jungle experience but I remember how difficult it was to return with photos that could make people feel how I felt ... A great moment, just a careful move of yours and we stand in the jungle ... This is GOOD ... Barbara.

Hi Kristine,
Wonderful experimentation, and the result is quite delightful, at time it feels as if we are trap in this deep thick lush green jungle and there is no way out, and it also kind of like looking at the forest from a stain obscure glass. The colors is beautiful and vivid with really good light and contrast. The essence of the rich rainforest is fully captured and well presented. Thanks Kristine.

Hi Kristine
Brilliant idea to move the camera to create this effect. The strong lines of the trees, brilliant greens and filtering light do the rest.

This is an interesting effect, good decision to make the vertical motion blur. Photos of tropical rain forests from the ground level seldom work due to overcrowding this is a nice exception.

Hi, Kristine -
I'm in ABQ airport on my laptop, so I'm not too sure of my colors, but in any case this looks gorgeous. A really nice shot that combines the feel of a rainforest (and I do know what they feel like!) with the concept of an abstract painting.
One of the other instructions at Santa Fe Photo Workshops this week was Eddie Solloway, who teaches how to get photos like this in nature. On instructors' night he showed the school some photos like this one.
Best,
Dan

This is an incredible image. I mean it seems like some thing graphical , created by human, like a silk fabric, however it is absolutley natural. I ma glad you caught it with this wonderful green. Majestuous. Geraldine

Good morning Kristine,
a perfect abstract image looking for a painting.I like this dense foliage of this tropical rainforest with the sun beams to try to penetrate it,creating this specific and misty atmosphere. The silhouettes of the thin trunks of the trees, enhance the marvellous of the scenery.Well done.

Hello Kristine,
wonderful work here - I really thought it is something photographed through the thick curved green glass ( as it reminded me this at the first sight).
By the way - thanks for stopping at my azulejos shot tonight (I must admit it was a dull wide ankle shot exactly as you have suggested) and I turned it and cropped it in PS. I am happy it works with you - it means I am learning.:-)
Have a nice evening
