West Arlington Covered Bridge, a photo from Vermont, Northeast

Photographer's Note

Take a left off Route 7A in Arlington onto Route 313 west 4.4 miles on left side. This bridge spans the Battenkill River which is well-known by canoeists, kayakers and fly fisherman. The Battenkill is also famous for some great swimming holes. In addition, inner tube rides along the Battenkill are popular during the summer months. The West Arlington Bridge is one of Vermont's best loved and most photographed covered bridges. The picturesque setting includes views of a local church steeple and the former home of artist Norman Rockwell. Rockwell's home is now known as the Inn on Covered Bridge Green and operates as a Bed & Breakfast Inn.

Hey Tom

Happy New Year to ya
interesting image on a few levels
1st its something i had never seen before so was wondering what it was gonna look like
2nd its so weird i looks just like a drive through garage :-)
3rd Why would you have a bridge covered in such a way?
Its looks very new is this a result of an old one rotting away or is it just very well looked after?

Hello Tom,

A very good managment of light for this presnettaion of a covered bridge. This good light give white color of the snow well exposed, plesanat play of shade and beautiful color with the red of the bridge which arise very well.
Good balalnce in the composition too with the bridge a little well off-centred on the left.

I notice that this covered bridge has its Christmas wreath, perhaps an amulet for each person who passes under this bridge !!! Beautiful and luminous presentation of this typical architecture of these areas. The camera angle gives a good depth to the image. Interesting photograph and thank you Tom for your informative note.

Ah, You have come back to your beloved covered bridges!
It looks great with the snow which makes the red of the paint stands out better. Fine perspective and light and very good sharpness. Quite well framed too.

I have been missing the covered bridges for a while now, and then you give us this fine specimen - with a Christmas decoration for a bonus!
All seems to be up to standards including the coat of red paints, which reminds me of the barns over here...

Hello Tom,

It is quite a while since you posted shots of these distinctive, red bridges. This one is taken from a particularly good pov, using the road as a good diagonal lead towards it. There is a fine sense of perspective and excellent use of the light.

Clear to show thick snow cover everywhere except the road, it is so good to have soft sunlight warm up a bit the cold winter, tidy shot to show the wooden architecture and background trees, distinct photo, good shoot.

Hello Tom,

The subject of covered bridges are among my favorites in your gallery (another favorite is the vicarious feeling of paddling a kayak). Your collections in both categories are unique, and they signal the change in seasons. I would love to see them all organized in a pair of themes. The note in this instance is much appreciated, I have always enjoyed the works of Norman Rockwell.

Tom,
I see we were both visiting covered bridges on New Year's Eve. This is a nice shot of this great old bridge. The placement of the bridge in the frame works well with the road leading the eye through the bridge. The red bridge stands out nicely against the snowy background. The lighting and colors are great as is the photo's sharpness.

How romantic it would be, seated in a horse-driven sleigh, riding through this bridge of my father's era in winter time!
Still looks in perfect shape despite its old age and stands out beautifully in its natural environment.
