Merced River Bridge, Yosemite, a photo from California, West

Photographer's Note

One of the prettiest National Parks I've ever seen anywhere. Ansel Adams brought this location to world attention. There is a waterfall at left above the pine trees & redwoods, and the reflections in the tranquil Merced River were soothing. I've added a slight blue cyan tint to the white sky. Taken with my old film camera. I think this is the Stoneman Bridge built in 1933. It looks very similar to the Clark Bridge.

"The Stoneman Bridge (1933) resembles the Clark and Happy Isles bridges, with a 72-foot (22 m) main span carrying a 27-foot (8.2 m) road and two 6-foot (1.8 m) sidewalks. The equestrian subways in the abutments were slightly enlarged in width to 8.5 feet (2.6 m) and were extended out from the surface of the wing walls for greater emphasis. It is located at the Camp Curry intersection. Cost was $71,675.08.[2] The bridge replaced a wooden bridge that had carried the former "Royal Arch Avenue" to the Stoneman Hotel, which had been demolished by the 1920s. Construction on the bridge was built by Sullivan and Sullivan of Oakland, California, but was terminated when the Bureau of Public Roads lost confidence in the contractor's ability to carry out the work. The bridge was completed by the Portland, Oregon firm of Kueckenberg & Wittman."

Much of the water is stored behind the New Exchequer dam in Lake McClure, and diverted by the Merced Irrigation District at the Crocker-Huffman diversion dam. The remainder of the water flows southwest through foothills, and then across the San Joaquin Valley to join the San Joaquin River."

Hello Chris ,
That is a beautiful composition (for a painter ,;)) . The stoned bridge is picturesque , and somewher looks a little incongruous in a "new" country like USA .
Fine reflections in the green calm mirror .

Yes a very picturesque national park, and from China we go to America. But your beloved stone bridge seems to be following you around the world. Beautiful reflections and I like how you've positioned it to the right of the frame, allowing us that beautiful view off into the wild mountains. Great shot.

A lovely composition with the bridge and trees reflected in the still waters. I'm not too sure about the cyan tint but to be honest only noticed it when I read your note! Warm regards Rosemary

Hello Chris,

A beautiful stone bridge surrounded by green lush giving a very scenic view. The mountains make a nice background. Great reflections. Colors and sharpness are great.

Hi Chris,

The reflections on the water are assets to the composition. The trees are framing well the bridge. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the architecture of the bridge. The light is giving a good contrast to the colors. Have a nice day.

Hi Chris, yes this park is famous by Ansel Adams. I really like his B&W photo. So why not a photo in his style? See workshop.
But I love the colors here, so I agree with your choose.

Hi Chris, I visited 18 national parks in the USA and was not so impressed by Yosemite. it depends on the actual conditions - when I was there it was Labour Day, so it was so many tourists and besides, there was no waterfalles - they dried out. Nicer was for me the part near Tioga Pass, I make some photos from the same place as Ansel Adams, but with no success. ( here) Nice view here, with the stone bridge (you like such bridges everywhere :)), forest and some reflections in calm water. Maybe because of this cyan tint it loos a bit like older photo.

Hello Chris,
A very beautiful stone bridge leads us to the forest at the other side of the river with high mountains
rising behind the trees.
A real beautiful nature picture.
The arch of the bridge is nicely reflected in the water. Even more beautiful are the reflected green tones
in the river.
