Photographer's Note

This is the entrance to the Martin Luther King, Jr Memorial in Washington, D. C. The centerpiece for the memorial is based on a line from Dr. King's "I Have A Dream" speech: "Out of a mountain of despair, a stone of hope." A 30 feet (9.1 m) - high relief of Martin Luther King named the "Stone of Hope" stands past these two pieces of granite that symbolize the "mountain of despair." Visitors figuratively "pass through" the Mountain of Despair on the way to the Stone of Hope, symbolically "moving through the struggle as Dr. King did during his life."

I have never seen this monument. Interesting idea. This Mountain of Despair looks like real rock. Excfellent presentation.

A most impressive idea for a memorial, I asusume there are 4 parts of the great grey-rock cut in the middle.
Fine photo, the people as always gave scale and life to the scene.

The diffused weather does not hamper a keen shooter as shown, thanks to your informative description as it gives an insight into this huge memorial. Good framing, well detailed and the blue sky is just lovely creating a nice contrast enhancing the overall impact. Pleasure to view, well done, Congrats

We tend to take sites in our backyard for granted. I still haven't had a chance to tour the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial. But having seen your photos, I resolve herewith to make a trip up there with friends. I didn't know about this passage representing the gates to the monument. They appear to be resonate tastefully, symbolically...
