Photographer's Note
Computational and Systems Biology
The tubular turret that is today in the center of my presentation adorns the bronze-coloured shiny building of the “MIT Computational and Systems Biology”, part of the Stata Center.
Here the unorthodox appearance of Frank Gehry's design may be symbolic for the interesting but for most of our incomprehensible field of Computational and Systems Biology.
The institute gives the following description: “The field of computational and systems biology represents a synthesis of ideas and approaches from the life sciences, physical sciences, computer science, and engineering. Recent advances in biology, including the human genome project and massively parallel approaches to probing biological samples, have created new opportunities to understand biological problems from a systems perspective. ”
I could not find out the function of this conical tower. It could be a skylight or part of the climate control system.
In any case, an intriguing shape between the multitude of other shapes.
In this presentation it is photographed from three different sides.

Unique design and fabulous outcome on picture, Rob.
An attraction you caught marvelously with its reflection on different colors of the opposite buildings.

Hello Rob,
I hardly understand a word of the note, and I don't understand the photos, but I am just as happy nevertheless. The shapes are interesting and the reflections are wonderful and exciting. The distribution of colours are slightly different between the three photos, but they are all lovely to watch.
Have a nice weekend,
Gert

Bonjour, cher Rob,

Hi Rob,
This is an original style of architecture. The point of view is showing the details of the building. The light is making the colors to shine. Have a nice day.

Hallo Rob,

Vele groeten, Paul

Hello Rob, I am a biophysicist so this description doesn't sound to me very strange. I would be interested in what they are doing there. Again, how could I miss it :(. Splendid reflections, I wonder what are the green places in reality. Any plants?
You have posted the pictures from Providence quite recently. Today my son and his wife went to Providence to take part in the Workshop. This workshop will focus on the interaction between visualization, computer experiment, and theoretical advances in all areas of research in geometry and topology. Something like math and art.
Kind regards MAlgo

Hello Rob,
This looks like the type of building that you could photograph at different times of the day as well as from different angles and get a whole different set of patterns.
It doesn't really matter what the conical tower is for, it is just a wonder source for photographs like this!
I just love it!
It is like 'active art', beautiful, inspirational and constantly changing.
I wonder how many shots you took before you were satisfied or exhausted.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Rob,
You can't go wrong with more reflective surfaces. :-) This is an interesting structure for sure, and the blue sky reflects nicely in the mirrored panels.

Hi dear Rob
So unique amazing architecture made of stainless mirror of the surface. So artstic reflection is inot only impressive but also suggestive sometjing to us. Unidentifyed reflection against the blu sky is so eye-cathing too.
All the best and have a good day! Takero

Hello Rob,
More interesting reflections with distortions, and wonderful warm cold colour contrasts between the rust red fg and the bg blue sky and building with reflected skylight. Good sharpness too. Tfs!

Hello Rob, I am with Gert, I understand very little of your note! But the visuals are great.
Those highly polished surfaces are a gift to a photographer like you. All three are works of abstract art.
Kind regards Jean.

Hi Rob
The colour scheme of the urban artwork looks real cool on the eye and splendid foreground feature providing interest leading into what's beyond. You have really caught so much detail seeing the whole structures is quite enchanting. Excellent shot.

Hi Rob,
In my previous job I was a part of a team who worked in this area. We even had some collaboration with MIT.
But I am glad to be back to pharmaceuticals now.
What a great design again. Like Gehry but clearly having something new here as well.
Amazing shapes, design, reflected colors.
Very good series of photos showing the structure from various angles.
Excellent work,

Hi Rob.
A superb composition with these geometric effects, with what looks like an inverted cone and in the foreground, a rather circular shape, its reflections and colors are fabulous.
Sharpness, lighting, color, and the magnificent composition; They are all perfectly realized factors, in this beautiful image.
Well done I like very much.
You have a good day.
Very best regards.
Luis.
