Palace of Fine Arts

I took this photo seven years ago tomorrow, but that just happens to be a coincidence, I somehow recently realised I hadn㦙 shown this part of San Francisco before. This remarkable building is called the Palace of Fine Arts. It was originally built for the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition and completely rebuilt between 1964 and 1974. The Beaux-Arts structure was designed to resemble a decaying ruin in ancient Rome. The main part of the complex is this 49 metres high rotunda. It had been a cloudy morning, but the clouds were finally being chased away during our visit.

Thanks for your latest critique, Lars, appreciated.
As for this picture, seven years / tomorrow... but looks as wonderful as just yesterday's take.
Superb scale with the family visiting, this emphsised the mighty pillars and the decorated dome above.
Colors and the exposure wonderfully rendered on the combined sight across the water.

a marvelous structure imitating the roam style.I remember I wanted to visit this area of the town, but it was so far and I wanted to know the opposite part of the town and had no time for everything. beautiful photo.

The trees and the vegetation are framing well the palace. The point of view is showing the details of the palace of Fine art. The light is giving nice tints to the colors of the picture. Have a nice day.

Hello Lars, the people standing in front of this large building give us a good idea of the scale.
An interesting idea to build a building that resembles a decaying ruin!
You managed a good point of view especially as we can see through the arch towards some columns obviously belonging to another building in an ancient style.
The inclusion of the water and the plants are a lovely foreground.

Id幯 med den h酺 byggnaden verkar vara lite som i Las Vegas, att kopiera n嶓ot europeiskt och g酺na g顤a det lite mer extremt. Men det vita USA har ju inte s� mycket eget att falla tillbaka p�. Fin bild i bra balans och med utm酺kta f酺ger. M鄚niskorna i f顤grunden avsl鐱ar hur stort och pampigt detta 酺.

Hello Lars,

This building doesn't look to be much ruined though it does show a classical style!
You have captured the building with excellent clarity and placed it nicely off-centre for your composition.
It was only when I focussed carefully on the decorative details that I realised their were figures under the arch; at this point the whole scale of the building altered for me! Those figures were important!

I have been more lucky with the weather:

I suppose it is awkward to complain about the weather while in California but San Francisco and in general Nor-Cal is a particular case and I know some people who visited few times without being able to see Golden Gate through the fog.
Great reportage, it is a lovely piece of architecture and a really nice place to walk around.
