Photographer's Note

This is New Years Day morning in Yosemite Valley. The valley is very "developed" for a national park, with lodges, shops, campgrounds and other facilities everywhere, but one can still find quiet, out-of-the-way places like this. (Of course, the fact that everyone else is still sleeping helps.)

To repeat what I said in an earlier post: Yosemite Valley is usually not high enough, at around 4000 ft (1200 m), to be snow-covered in winter--it may fall but it soon melts. So I was lucky on this particular trip to have about a foot (30 cm) of new snow.
