Los Amigos @ Dusk, a photo from New Jersey, Northeast

Photographer's Note

A very brightly colored and brightly lit restaurant in the heart of downtown Atlantic City. "Los Amigos" was built in 1978 and has the best Mexican food in town. I don't know the full history of this place (anyone?), but this place will certainly catch anyone's eyes. It is nestled adjacent to some dark seedy shops and is almost a landmark divider between the run-down Atlantic City of old and the new striving revival "shopping district" in downtown AC.

Technical notes: This was taken handheld in low light at dusk with my favorite lens: Canon 35 mm f/2.0 prime. This lens is amazing for capturing night ambience (more pictures forthcoming). Photoshop adjustments: levels, contrast, added border.

Nice shot Calvin. I like the nice tight crop here. I find that dusk is great for those neon shots -- the neon is bright enough to come out and you still get some of the surrounding details. Plus, apparently if you've got a f2.0 lens you can handhold!

actually, i was just thinking about sending you an email a few days ago, and see how things are going.
a very colorful image. I would certainly like to eat at a place like this. hmm, I wonder if their mexican food is really as good as down here in Texas:)

Usually I don't like when people add color to the frame, because it gives me the impression that the frame is compiting for attention. In this case, the frame is playing along and enhancing the visual experience. Well done!
