First Day of Autumn, a photo from Utah, West

Photographer's Note

Location: This mountain meadow is located up the South Fork of Provo Canyon. Near a place known as Big Springs.

About the Photo: I took this photo this morning. The first day of autumn! It has been raining here along the Wasatch Mountains for the last three days straight, so when I woke this morning and noticed the storm had finally cleared I jumped in my car and hurried up the canyon. After two hours of hiking around I finally stumbled across this meadow, and took this picture at around 9:00 am. I love hiking in the mountains in the autumn. The air is crisp and cool, and the leaves are spectacular.
And yes, that's snow at the top of the mountain. Some of our higher elevations already have over a foot of snow!

Hi, Ryan. Another good picture of autummn with different lights. Good contrast between the dark foreground and the sunny background. The leaves have wonderful colours. The cloud avoids an empty sky. It looks as if there's already some snow on the higher grounds.

Hi Ryan!
In Germany all trees are still green and today we had a wonderful warm and sunny day,
about 28 �, and I was sitting in a beergarden with short trousers till 9:30 pm......
A good composition with nice autumn elements,A verry clear sky ,the first snow and these wonderful red trees.

Your framing is excellent, with the golden meadows shadows framed by the riots of autumn leaf colors; great deatil in the mountain and that perfect little cloud. Looks like it's shaping up to be a good year for skiing.

It looks earlier than 9 am, Ryan, with the light so golden. It's a beautiful scene--summerlike green and winter snow to complement the rich fall red. And a little white cloud to watch over it all from above. A really nice one! Regards, Ken.

I really like the light and colour in this shot. Teh lines (ski slopes?) are great. While I like that the foreground is dark, I do find it a bit muddy - but then again, this is a nice contrast to the brightly lit grass. TFS.

Hi Ryan:

It seems we've both been up Provo Canyon the last couple weekends! I was on the Alpine Loop Saturday morning, although unfortunately most of my shots didn't turn out like I wanted. This is a great shot all around. The low triangular mountain makes for a great composition, and the colors are fantastic. Good job, and enjoy the fall colors before snow sets in.

Very nice image, you captured the light just right on the meadow. That canyon is *magical* in the morning...wonderful place. It's also a great place for wild grouse hunting...

Great image here again. You have done well in the composition to balance the light striking the meadow and grass with that perfectly placed cloud in the upper left. This is a very calming photo.

By the way, I will watch for your van. I may have seen you without knowing it sometime. We seem to hit the some of the same places quite often. I would be driving a white nissan 4x4 pickup, come say hi if you see me.

Great work, I still look forward to your gallery of large print photography art in Park City. You are destined to exceed the works of Holdeman, Tal, etc.

Incredible shot! I like those intense colours, and the lighting coming form the side shows the texture of the mountain and the trees very well. The splash of red in the trees at the bottom of the frame works great, and the spotlight effect of the sun on the field is amazing. Beautiful!

I've just been browsing some of your landscapes, Ryan - I am very impressed at the quality of your work. This one I like in particular. The composition is perfect and you've pushed the contrast and saturation to the limit (but without over-doing it) to produce a very crisp and clean image. Cheers . . . David
