Photographer's Note

I think of all trees aspens are one of the most photographed. Did you know that one of the largest living organisms in the world is an aspen clump in Colorado? Those clumps of aspens that look like a little aspen forest are really all trunks sent up from one root system that expands outward from the center, where it started with one tiny aspen seed forming a seedling, and from there it grows and grows.

I was interested in this particular clump of aspens growing on 9 Mile Mountain because they are not straight- the trunks are so twisted and odd looking that I thought it would make an excellent BW. Generally Aspens tend to be straightish, so these ones were interesting.

If you happen to be staying at Snow Mountain Ranch, I highly recommend snowshoeing. They have a number of trails, of various lengths and difficulties. A big group of us snowshoed up to the lookout point where I took this image, and we had an absolute blast. Some people weren't paying attention to the trail and sank in up to their waists, and the trail up to the lookout is gorgeous- I'll hopefully post some more images on that trail soon.

This is the first of my images on TE with a watermark- the purpose of my watermark is to discourage theft of my images by casual thieves (naturally they don't stop skilled PS users.) In a perfect world we wouldn't need watermarks etc, but as many other users have discovered TE is a great place for thieves to swipe images. In any case thanks for your patience in dealing with the watermark- as I perfect it we'll see what happens. :)
