Photographer's Note
Evergreen in Autumn
Horseshoe Park
Rocky Mountain National Park
On my day alone in the park shooting aspens this lone tall evergreen standing against the autumn and the late morning sky really caught my attention.
This is around 10:45 am facing West .. and really shows the effects of a polarizer at altitude with our magic Colorado blue sky.
This is for Fulvio .. since I didn't see the picnic table until I got home ..
and for Kath (feather) .. for the crazy blues that were just peeking through in the last image
Autumn in the mountains is almost over .. Heavy snow is predicted for Sunday ...

Hi John,
The grand old ponderosa frames the wonderful cloud-decorated sky. The golden trees and grass provide a solid grounding for the soaring elegance of the ponderosa. You managed the wonderful light well to achieve stunning color.

Hello John,
this lovely image transfers the colours of autumn nicely! The lone tall evergreen is really standing against but supporting the natural environment around. The snowy peak in the depth sends the message of the heavy snow that comes in a short time. The polarizer made a perfect job!
Have a nice weekend,
Athanasios.

Hi John,
Good choice of vertical framing and compo with big tree on the side works well. The colors are special here... very sweet and this sky getting darker and darker as you look up the picture is nicely rendered.

Hello John,
A colourful seasonal scenery, where the great pine is the natural focus of attention!
The fluffy white clouds on the intensely blue sky make a good background for this fine autumn image!

The image looked impressive as a thumbnail and the full size version doesn't disappoint. The polariser has done its job by saturating the colours but careful use has avoided this being overdone. The clouds help break up what could otherwise have been a bright but basically uninteresting sky. For me what really makes the image is the tiny mountain top peeping above the trees. It may be small in the image but it really draws and holds the eye beautifully.
Great piece of work.

Thanks for the mention John....and yes....I am well and truly impressed. That is some blue! That is also an impressive tree; the smaller trees nearby really give it scale. You composed it well using the vertical format; the only way to go to fit it in I guess. The autumn colours are wonderful too. I can't say I envy the snow forecast; not my kind of weather. Well done

Hi John,
Your polarizer indeed was working its magic...I like the strong contrast between the tall lone evergreen and the golden aspens. Good use of the vertical format, with rich tones and hues. The clouds really contribute to the presentation of this bucolic scene. A magical moment, John. You seized it well.

Hello John,
A very impressive image here. Levels of saturation are fantastic, very much bringing out hte very best of the shades of 'fall'. Good Fg (may have kept all of that park bench) and excellent DOF, with the distant looming peak. The gradient change in the sky is stunning, beautiful use of polarization. A very different image when viewed from alternate angles on the LCD screen. A great image.

Hello John,
again, like in most of your pictures, the colors are so balanced and crisp, that it feels good just looking at it, like a bowl of fresh air.
I like that huge tree standing tall in the foreground and most of all the snowy peeks back there.
The table looks weird in the compo.
