Photographer's Note

With the rising of the sun, hundreds of Canada geese lift off from the waters of the Fox River beside the Community Bridge connecting Little Chute, Combined Locks, and Kimberly, Wisconsin.

Humorous title notwithstanding, the spectacle is amazing. The day is just starting, and the birds are not flying in their trademark V-formation just yet. But it is still stunning to see so many birds fly in such a tight space without crashing into one another.

Wisconsin, and the Fox River, in particular, are key points along the birds' traversal of the Mississippi Flyway. Although we see Canada geese pretty much year round in these parts (except when a severe cold snap ices over the waterways), November is one of the peak migration months.
