Photographer's Note
NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg sometimes has interesting ideas. After the "Gates project" in Central Park from February 12 through February 27, 2005, the latest from Public Art Fund is New York City Waterfalls.
Four man-made waterfalls 90 to 120 feet were constructed in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Governors Island. This display will stay until Oct 13,2008. For more information go to www.nycwaterfalls.org
This shot was taken from pier 17 in Manhattan.

A well lit shot Shaeri. The cascade, though artificcail attracts towards itself, but the amount of water and intensity of flow is low, which makes the eys search for the bridge and its majesty.
Did you use Neat Image too, Shaeri?

Hi Shaeari,
A nice shot. You have given the name of the picture with water falls. But in my opinion, the falls has become the secondery object. The primary one is ofcourse, the hanging bridge in the evening. The lights on it is superbly captured.
Still its an opinion.
I'm not arrising any question on your photograph. It's excellent.

Hello Shaeri! I have briefly read about this project some days ago in the culture side of my daily newspaper, and as TE and its photographers are very fast, here it comes :) You have mastered this night shot extremely well and I like the warm yellow light with the cool white side of the "falls" in the back. Many towns are working hard with different projects to attract tourists, and so it is with NY. Good work, Shaeri! Take care, enjoy your day, Barbara.

(Dear Shaeri, I was precisely thinking of you !!!)
Informative and festive, a vision of New York the glorious city from an angle that I don't remember (specially night time), all these illuminated lines and curves from the bridges are beautiful, I wonder what is the white elongated spot in the distance ?
TFS, compliments and best regards,

Hello Shaeri,
Great capture of the falls and the bridges! The night view with the long exposure really shows the cascade of the water well. I have seen this fall several times during the day, and it definitely looks more impressive at night as in this photo. :-)

Hi, Shaeri,
what a wonderful night shot! It looks like a fanciful painting. Something from an imagination. The exposure is perfect. The "falls" are in a perfect spot and the slow exposure looks great. And yet, it is just the exactly right part of an entire picture. I am awed by it. Just totaly excellent. Many thanks and warmest wishes,
Shelly

I never heard of the waterfalls before. It seems a shame that they will be taken away in October. Very well composed night shot with excellent exposure. The slow shutter has had a wonderful effect on the water; not just the waterfall, but the river itself. Well done

Hi Shaeri
well done with this night shot. there are lots of diagonal lines here and of course the waterfall. I did not realize that these were tempory projects. Maybe the city should keep them as they are quite unusual and pleasing to look at.

hi Shaeri
This must be a world first waterfall from a bridge. Your long exposure has done well to show the flow and simultaneously giving a great lighting effect of the night scene, especially the luminance on the water surface. tfs

Hi Shaeri,
Nice effect on the falling water with 8sec. expo....The illuminated bridges keep the picture busy, with a smooth water looking a bit like clouds wiewed from above...

Hi Shaeri,
Indeed it is an interesting idea, putting a big waterfall under a bridge. You achieved a wonderful image, very nicely composed and making beautiful use of the light , colours and shapes of the bridges, besides the ethereal effect of the running water. The passing boat (I confirmed it by reading your reply to Cath) also produces a nice visual effect.
Regards, José.

hello Shaeri,
I must admit that I have been too lazy to go and see this artwork at night, since it would mean dragging the tripod with me and what not :) but I will, especially after seeing this photo, it's very impressive. I like a lot the play of colours and lights, for some reason it reminds me of Christmas :D including the illuminated flag at the top of the bridge is a nice touch. very nice work, my compliments.

Kristine

Hi my friend,
the flag illuminated on top of the bridge is like the icing on the cake to complete this wonderful wok. You've done a great job setting up your camera, the exposure seems to be spot on with the waterfall offering a beautiful view and an important focal point. The quality is excellent throughout with excellent and well visible details. A fine work indeed!
Thanks for sharing it and have a great weekend!

Hi, Shaeri -
I'd say "no fair! You get all these great pictures because you're in New York!" But I live in San Francisco, so I can't say that, can I?
It is a very good capture of the waterfall (which we have heard about out here), great light treatment and positioning. The bridges are tilted, but I see the shoreline is level.
I'm having a discussion out here about weight in photographs, the idea being that the left side naturally carries weight better than the right side, as here. I've been wondering if this is a cultural bias, being that our language is written left to right, whereas in a Semitic culture (and I've been exposed to Hebrew since I was 2 years old, so I count), writing is right to left, which may alter our perceptions of this balance. But looking at this (and a few other photos), I am starting to feel that there is a cross-cultural or perhaps uber-cultural sense that the left side is the heavier side. I say this because your photo does seem overbalanced, as the weight is on the right. (Of necessity for this scene.)
Thoughts?
Best,
Dan

Hi Shaeri. Wonderful photo. Good use of long shutter speed to give the cascade a smooth look and create a wonderful texture on the FG water also. Good colours and details also. Thanks for sharing.
Have a good week, Paul.

Hard to really figure that out but it's really strange and unexpected. A kind of urban waterfall !!? You captured that perfectly (especially through choosing a night moment) and managed the compo well.
Mysterious...
