Another protest shot, perhaps sadly topical once more...

Lebanese Australians gather at an inner city garden in Sydney city to protest for the withdrawal of Syrian armed forces from Lebanon in February, 2005.

A week or two before this protest, Rafik Hariri, former Lebanese Prime Minister, was killed in an explosion in Beirut which prompted calls around the world for the withdrawal of Syrian armed forces from Lebanon.

Syrian troops eventually withdrew the day after this photograph was taken after mounting pressure from abroad, on the 26th of April, 2005.

An apt and sad post for the recent happenings.

This is so clear and sharp, it looks like you took it on digital and coverted to b/w - in fact I was going to compliment your conversion before I realised you used film :)

The large figure in the foreground and your low point of view works wells for me...

THis is very nicely journalistic, and quite a time-appropriate photo. GOod handling of the light. Your pov in these 'demonstration' photos are instinctive and effective. HEre it is the perspective produced by low angle, frontal image of the imposing man and the banners in the background. Good stuff.

I think this is a historical step, especially after what I've read your note. pretty impressive. do you always take your pictures not standing?..:). the fact is that it works.
Still the protestants look very calm.
After looking at it for a while I started to compare the main figure of the photo and the guy from the stand the other guy is holding. two characters, ha?..:)

I completely missed this one, Mike. ANother top notch photjournalist offering from you, the man's gut on the left seemingly carrying the entire hope of a nation...now burning from a different fire.
