Photographer's Note
Another aerial shot of the 36 domes of Kata Tjuta, (the Olgas), taken from inside a helicopter using a film camera. This region is often called the red heart of Australia. Here, you can see the drainage patterns of the water running off into the desert. Quality is not as high as a digital camera, but I think saturation is better. My old polarizing filter was about 3 times stronger! There are trees growing in the little elevated plateaux in the centre. The tallest peak (Mount Olga at 3500 feet above sea level,) is just shy of 1,800 feet about the surrounding plain:
"The 36 domes, covering an area of 21.68 km2 (8.37 sq mi), are composed of conglomerate, a sedimentary rock consisting of cobbles and boulders of varying rock types including granite and basalt, cemented by a matrix of sandstone. The highest point, Mount Olga, is 1,066 m (3,497 ft) above sea level, or approximately 546 m (1,791 ft) above the surrounding plain (198 m (650 ft) higher than Uluru).[1] Kata Tjuta is located at the eastern end of the Docker River Road."

This area of Australia reminded me of Moab, Utah, & parts of Arizona & Nevada.

Good Morning Chris,
You talk about quality but I am amazed how good it is, taken from a moving helicopter. You have fine thirds composition, with the detail of the mountains craeting the separation line. From this height, it is possible to get the full effect of the light and shadows.
The drainage pattern makes a good guide.
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

ciao Chris,
immagine che mi colpisce per la bellezza dei colori con l'arido FG e la pianura sullo sfondo .
Un cielo dalla bella tonalità azzurra sovrasta la scena.

Hello Chris,
I don't know how you managed to take such a sharp and beautiful image from the helicopter. I am really not very good at it. Beautiful panoramic view showing all the details of the mountain. Great color contrast between the blue sky and the red mountain.

hi chris,
another excellent aerial picture. i was here about 20 years ago and went over the olgas in a small airplane, but my pictures didn't turn out this well. your picture brings back a few memories. the colours of the rocks are superb and contrast nicely with the wonderful blue sky. as you say, you can really sea the topography of the area so much more from the air. excellent picture.
regards,
brian

Hi Chris,
The point of view is sending my eyes toward the horizon which is giving depth to the composition. It is also allowing me to see the details and colors of the Kata Tjula which is impressive. The quality of the light is enhancing the beauty of the colors. Have a nice day.

Hi Chris,
Another great shot of the amazing desert landscape. Fantastic place and excellent presentation from helicopter. Anywhere no sign of human life - no roads or houses. Is the plane trip only possibility to see this? No fear of it? Thanks for sharing

les couleurs typiques de l'endroit, presque aveuglantes.
Une profondeur d'enfer et il est vrai que cet endroit fait penser à certains coins des USA.
