Photographer's Note
I took this image at Second Valley a small coastal town situated in the Fleurieu Peninsula, South Australia. It was a beautiful Winter's day, quite warm and the sun shone for most of the day. My friend and I decided to stay to capture the sunset.
Second Valley
Steep coastal cliffs, old boat sheds and fascinating geological formations help make Second Valley unforgettable. The area's protected waters provide scuba divers with memorable experiences as they encounter fur seals and leafy seadragons.
Located 91 kilometres south of Adelaide, Second Valley is divided into two parts - the old mill on the main road and, down the valley to the sea, a tiny coastal port reminiscent of a Cornish fishing village.

Hi Debbie,
The romantic mood comes form the dim light as well as the candy colors at the horizon. Great catch of the splash on the shore. I like it.

I would like to see more saturated colours of the sunset but is still very nice. The beach scene is beautiful and the cliffs add more drama to the place. A long pier with nice bluish water to keep the image enjoyable. THanks Debbie.

Hallo Debbie!
A wonderful view in breathtaking colours! The dynamics of the waves gives a good contrast to the slowly occuring sunset. A really lovely scenery ... and it's always again interesting that you have winter there, downunder ...
Greetings from warm and sunny Germany ;-) and have a nice wekend!

Hi there Debbie. A fine shot, with good detail in the shaded part of the rock face. Perhaps the sky could be a little darker. The way the eye follows the lit road and pier out to the human figures is very effective. Those breaking waves look cold.

Hello Debbie,
A splendid sunset composition with lovely tones and atmosphere. The people on the end of the pier add much to the ambiance. The waves are very well captured and make for a feeling of tranquillity.

Very well composed shot of the sunset. The timing was perfect to capture the splashing wave in the foreground. The small detail of the people on the pier admiring the sunset and/or fishing is a nice feature. For the sky itself I think a ND grad filter would have been a good idea to balance the exposure more and really bring out the stunning colours. Nevertheless a very attractive scene.

Hi Debbie, I think you've hit a new personal high mark with this one. This is excellent. Your lighting is excellent throughout with the highlights kept within the bounds, and dark areas all still clearly visible. The pinpoints from the street lamps show up very well against that cliff. The lighting has given us excellent texture in the water with the waves and rock and created a very nice soft mood in the sky. The colours you've brought into this with the sunset work very well. The mood is soft without overpowering, yet quite warm. Your timing was perfect. Having set up this shot you obviously waited for that wave to break. And finally the composition, you have the cliff breaking down from the left top corner, with the jetty on the right. The people on the jetty make an awesome silhouette. Then framing this is that beautiful water and sky. Awesome!
Thanks, John

Hello Debbie,
I would also guess that the scuba divers would encounter the odd great white sharks which cruise the waters! I am in two minds about this image. I enjoy the geological feature, the positions and composition, but I think a few minor things could have been changed to produce a finer image. Parts of the sky seem to be a bit washed out. I would have waited slightly longer to allow for less light and take a longer exposure shot to smooth the waves in that silky way and allow more detail in the sky. What I do like is the position and inclusion of the people, they give the scale and also provide a coastal holiday feel. A great image none-the-less, hope you find the hints of use!

Hi Debbie, A beautifully composed photo, with the road arcing round to meet the pier, the waves lapping onto the shore has been captured wonderfully well; a lovely sunset with brilliant colour & excellent overall light, kind regards Wilson.

Hiya Debbie, nice clear shot, what attracted me was the icy/refreshing blue of the ocean and wash nicely offset by the last of the suns rays, which could of had a touch more colour, nicely composed, delightful capture!
