Photographer's Note
A photo from the WA Squash Open, held at the Hyatt Centre in Perth.
I was shooting through glass so it made a bit harder to get a sharp, clear shot, so thats when my creative side kicked in.

Great. The highkey effect allows a striking result. Very creative. Just wish the rackett wasn't overlapping his head, but that's really a minor thing.

Thats very cool. I'm loving the straight bold red line in that bright world of white. I'm glad you got the ball to show up even though its white-its not lost in your background at all. Its just a very cool shot, very creative. Great job.

Wow thats funky stuff Brendan, one of your strongest photos ever. The graphism here is awesome, very powerful. I love the total white and that strong red stripe. The blurred action gives this a lot of dynamism. Im adding it to my favorotes.

Very nice, daring work again, Brendan. The creative choices you made are right out there on the edge but clearly you know what you want and I think it works in spite of the unrelieved white, blinding almost. the red line, disco ntinued is a lovely touch as is the motion blur and the ball off to the right.
Zen-like really...

This is brilliant Brendan. At first sight it reminds me a very Japanese picture, with all that white and the red stripe. The sportsman resembles me a fighter with all that attitude. So simple, so graphic, so powerful. Great!

Hi Brendan, Well I like it when your creative side kicks in, it's really a brilliant shot. The simplistic red line is divine against the white background; the player and the ball positioned at exactly the right spot; so well done. A perfect shot! Sabine

Hi Brendan,
Excellent mix of graphical picture and sport shot. Infinitly more interesting than a conventionnal sport shot. It reminds me some scenes of "THX 1138", by Georges Lucas, with the totally white background, the white clothes and the haistyle of the player.
This red line and its position in the frame are perfect.

that red line really jumps out of the shot brendan. it's nicely contrasted with the blurry player. but you know what makes this shot work for me?? the ball! stupid, but the fact that the ball is in shot gives it the necessary touch ... but that red line is sensational! really creative photo mate!

Hi Brendan, wonderfully timed, very surreal sports action moment. Such a unique change from your usual cool athletes-in-motion type images, but love this nonetheless. The red streak does it for me, in a way appearing like a jetstream following a high flying commercial aircraft in the sky, with the ball seemingly the source of the trail. Well done!

Very very creative, a textbook shot about what is high key and the benefits of it for simplifying purpose.
Incredible decisive moment too, the technique wouldn't be half as meaningful without the timing.

Hello,
It's a real masterpiece! Composition created from just a few elements, but it's a great advantage of your photo. Another one is again the narrow choice of colours in your compo. Nicely captured motion as well. Great job!

And the background of white is simply awesome contrasting.

Wooo, I like that red line, and here's a blur that works wonders for the compo. Very unique, creative and personal, expressive despite, or thanks to the bareness of elements you disposed of, Brendan.

And this is very very creative, Brendan. A great idea and a superb tecnical work. The composition aspect is also very good, with the red line in the middle and the off-centered player, and the ball!!!!!.
I like the white frame, too.
Great job. Congrats.

Hi Brendan,
The graphism of this photo is excellent. The opposition between the steady red line and the guy's movements (and the ball's movement too) is well seen.
Congratulations,

I'll just add my voice to the chorus of approval on this one. It's a great representation of the sport. All the more impressive considering that you were shooting with a 50mm, through glass, and the subject had his back to you.
This puts me in mind of that famous table tennis photo by Eamonn Mccabe. Both use very simple, graphic compostion with lots of empty space to make a great picture of a difficult sport.

Hello Brendan
I feel lost in your portfolio,as everything looks alien, like another language,a whole new world to discover.
If I want to enlarge my vision, this is the place to come.
Luckily the player is in white,as it increases the impact, making him dissappear in this blurred world but very clear red line, very artistic
I like it

Good catch Brendan. Great eye and great portfolio. This one is very minimalistic, original and creative. The only thing I could even say I would like to have seen is the red stripe to the left of the man's head...it's not a studio though.

Autre sport de balle et raquette, avec un cadrage hautement original.
Cette ligne rouge et nette sur un mouvement flouté et pastel confine à l'art abstrait.

Hi Brendan
I know we all like to have our newest photo's commented on, but looking at your main-page, how on earth could i pass up this beauty!
I like it when these slow shutters are used to capture fast action, the results can often be dissapointing, but sometimes it works out brilliantly - such as this one.
the red line is striking against all the whites.
creative and well executed!
